It aims to be more robust, more versatile, more functional, more practical and easier to use than ever before.

computer-1, a Mini-ITX chassis

While setting up their first office many years ago, teenage engineering set out to create their ideal PC case. It was to have a small desktop footprint and be easy to move around. They built it with a laser cutter, high density board and spray paint. A simple, no frills computer case computer-1 has always been a work in progress. the board version worked ok, but the handles couldn't support the weight of the case when moving it around. so after some literal computer crashes, they turned to aluminium for a lighter and sturdier design.

Based on the build-it-yourself design of the pocket operator modular, they landed on the simple Mini-ITX case that they use today. A small desk footprint, compact and portable, computer-1 has a small desk footprint. the lightweight aluminium, and chrome handles, make it easier to move around when you have to. In powder coated pure orange RAL 2004, it's a small, no frills tool for any desktop. Built around the Mini-ITX motherboard and the SFX power supply format, it also fits a dual slot graphics card up to 170 mm. while compact, it's capable of housing a range of parts. From gamer to programmer, engineer and designer, the chassis can be equipped with whatever components you wish.
Update Nov 22nd: Our in-depth review of the computer-1 is live now.

SilverStone Intros SUGO 16 Cube-Type Mini-ITX Case

SilverStone introduced the SUGO 16, a cube-shaped compact Mini-ITX case, designed for gaming PCs. Available in black (model: SST-SG16B) and white (SST-SG16W) variants, the case measures 200 mm (W) x 232 mm (H) x 280 mm (D), dry-weighing 2.66 kg. It serves up room for a Mini-ITX or Mini-DTX motherboard with up to two expansion slots. A cut-out in the front lets you easily slide in your graphics card, to which the case offers a maximum clearance of 27.5 cm (14.7 cm max height). The case gives you a choice of using either an ATX or an SFX PSU. When using an ATX PSU, the maximum CPU cooler height is 8.5 cm (enough for an AIO block or low-profile fan-heatsinks); but if an SFX PSU is used, you get room for up to 17.2 cm cooler height, which is plenty for tower-type coolers.

Using an SFX power supply also creates room for a single-fan radiator to be mounted along the case's front fan vent. The PSU bay opens out toward the front, hidden behind the front panel. An AC extension leads to a receptacle at the back. The rear has a 120 mm fan vent that can hold either a 120 mm rear exhaust fan, or a 3.5-inch HDD, or a 2.5-inch SSD (as mounts). Internally, there's just the one 2.5-inch bay. Behind the motherboard tray, there's a strategically located cutout letting you access the M.2-2280 slot that's typically located at the reverse side of the PCB for modern Mini-ITX motherboards. The SilverStone SUGO 16 is expected to go on sale later this week in Asia, at a price roughly equivalent to USD $90. It will reach Europe and North America in December.

Asus ROG Strix Z690-I Gaming WiFi Leak Shows Off Stacked Board Design

Over the past few generations of Mini-ITX boards we've seen Asus add more and more stacked layers and its upcoming ROG Strix Z690-I Gaming WiFi seems to be taking this to the next level with what appears to be no less than three stacked layers on top of the main PCB. What can be seen from the side-shot of the boards is that there's at least one PCB for audio as well as what appears to be an ARGB and fan header, as well as what should be two layers for M.2 NVMe SSDs with associated heatsinks.

The rest of the pictures of the board have been put through some kind of filter which makes it hard to ascertain any details, although we can spot a USB type-C and USB 3.0 front panel connector. Asus has carried over the VRM heatsink from the Strix Z590-I Gaming WiFi by the looks of things, although it seems like the extra NVMe slot has been implemented on the cost of two SATA ports. We'll have to wait until the official unveiling to find out the full details, which should be sometime next month.

AMD 4700S SoC Desktop Motherboard Pictured

Pictures of the mysterious AMD 4700S SoC desktop kit just hit the web, courtesy Disclosuzen. As we reported earlier, the 4700S could be derived from the semi-custom SoC AMD originally co-developed with Microsoft for the Xbox Series X/S consoles. Close-ups of the PC motherboard reveals an interesting aspect—the board lacks any discernible display output, and instead relies on a PCI-Express graphics card. The board is built in the Mini-ITX form-factor, and draws power from a conventional combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors.

A custom-design fan-heatsink cools the SoC. There are no memory slots, an unknown amount of hardwired memory under the SoC heatsink. 6-channel HD audio, wired Ethernet, and twelve USB ports (six each of USB 3.x and USB 2.0), make for the rest of the I/O. Storage connectivity is interesting—there are no M.2 NVMe slots, just two SATA ports. Why AMD even came up with this contraption is anyone's guess, but we guess it serves two purposes—1, it lets AMD harvest dies with faulty iGPUs, and 2, it serves as a decent developer platform, for game devs to at least optimize for the CPU. The lack of any NVMe storage interfaces points to the likelihood of this board not being meant for the general audience. Retail channel availability of the board seems unlikely, although it won't surprise us if suppliers on AliExpress list it anyway.

DFI Announces Downsized Desktop SBC with Auto Heat-Up against Extreme Weathers

As AI technology becomes ubiquitous, the impact of unusual weather also gains more attention. The most impressive case was the sudden weather change in Denver, the US, last September that the temperature dropped from 37°C to minus overnight. Faced with such fluctuation, the devices which maintained the daily life of the city in order, like the facilities for traffic flow analysis, surveillance, and AI visual analytics, could no longer operate normally, or even damaged, due to the lack of endurance to the extreme weathers.

Inspired by the situation, DFI brought an innovative design into the newly-released CS551, the "World's First 3.5" desktop SBC with auto heat-up". This breakthrough gives devices high performance with smaller footprint for image analysis or heavy workloads, no matter at subzero temperatures or under heat waves.

Thermalright Rolls Out the 47mm-Tall AXP90-X47 Low-profile CPU Cooler

Thermalright today rolled out the AXP90-X47, a low-profile CPU cooler meant for compact Mini-ITX builds where Z-height is at a premium. The top-flow cooler offers a height of just 47 mm with its fan in place, and is meant for Socket AM4, LGA1200, and LGA115x platforms. The cooler should do fine as a stock fan-heatsink replacement, for running 10th Gen or 11th Gen Core processors at stock speeds.

The AXP90-X47 design consists of an aluminium fin-stack that's arranged along the plane of the motherboard, with 54 fins. Four 6 mm-thick nickel-plated copper heat-pipes make indirect contact with the CPU over mirror-finish base made of the same material, conveying heat to this fin-stack. An included 92 mm Thermalright TL-9015 fan ventilates the cooler. This 15 mm-thick fan features a 4-pin PWM input, and hydraulic bearing. It turns at speeds of up to 2,700 RPM, pushing up to 42.58 CFM of air-flow at 1.33 mm H₂O static-pressure, and a noise output of 22.4 dBA at top speed. The cooler measures 92 mm x 92 mm x 47 mm (WxDxH, including fan); weighing 310 g. The company didn't reveal pricing.

GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Master OC Edition Pictured

In a move that's possibly triggered by the MSI MEG B550 Unify X, GIGABYTE unveiled a limited edition variant of its X570 AORUS Master motherboard targeting overclockers—the X570 AORUS Master OC. This board does away with much of its aesthetic cladding, sheds the rear I/O shroud, and exposes its bare PCB for the most part. A much simpler fan-heatsink cools the X570 chipset. The CPU VRM area is cooled by a pair of aluminium fin-stack heatsinks that are joined by what looks like a flattened heat-pipe.

Perhaps the biggest design change with the GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Master OC has to be its memory set-up. The board has just two DDR4 DIMM slots, or one DIMM per memory channel. From a memory overclocking standpoint, this is the most optimal memory topology, and the reason why memory overclocking records are usually set on Mini-ITX motherboards (that have 1DPC memory configuration). Elsewhere we see a pair of PCI-Express 4.0 x16 slots wired to the CPU (x8/x8 with both populated), a third PCI-Express 4.0 x16 (electrical Gen 4 x4, wired to the X570 chipset), and three M.2 NVMe slots, each with PCI-Express 4.0 x4 wiring.
