ASRock Announces Challenger Series Gaming Monitors CL25FFA and CL27FFA

ASRock, the global leading manufacturer of motherboards, graphics cards, mini PCs, gaming monitors and power supply units, today launches two light gaming monitors, the CL25FFA and CL27FFA. In competitive gaming, image quality and responsiveness are critical. Standard commercial monitors often fall short of meeting gamers' needs, which is why the CL25FFA and CL27FFA were developed. With a 120 Hz refresh rate, these monitors deliver an impressive balance of performance and affordability, offering gamers a superior alternative to commercial monitors.

120 Hz Refresh Rate for Smooth Visuals
The CL25FFA and CL27FFA are equipped with a 120 Hz refresh rate, significantly outperforming the standard 60 Hz refresh rate of most commercial monitors. This means double the frames per second, ensuring smoother gameplay. Whether it's high-speed FPS games or precision-dependent MOBA battles, these monitors provide a competitive edge, enabling gamers to stay ahead.

Corsair Xeneon Edge Touchscreen is Your Monitor's Copilot

The new Xeneon Edge is a 14.5-inch LCD touchscreen that's meant to be installed in the gap between your main monitor and the base of its stand or table as shown below. The concept borrows heavily from automobiles. Imagine the monitor is your windshield, and the Xeneon Edge is your instrument cluster. It plugs into HDMI (for display input) and USB (for the touchscreen HID), or can even plug into a USB-C that passes DisplayPort through. The display has a fairly high resolution of 2560 x 720 pixels, and can be used to display and input a variety of widgets as shown in the example below. For gamers, this could mean pushing your HUD or simulator dials down to this, freeing up FOV on your main display. The touchscreen takes up to 5 points of multitouch. The display has a magnetized rear, and can be made to latch onto one of the metal panels of your case à la HYTE Y70 Touch, as shown below. Corsair plans to make the Xeneon Edge available in Q2 2025.

LG Revealed a 6K Nano IPS Black Monitor with Thunderbolt 5 at CES 2025

Although the TPU team at CES haven't snagged any hands on pics of LG's latest monitor at the show as yet, it looks like the Korean electronics giant has decided to give Apple's Pro Display XDR a run for its money. The new UltraFine 32U990A is a 32-inch display with a 6K resolution, although the company hasn't detailed the specifics, but it's highly likely to be the same 6144 x 3456 resolution as Dell's UltraSharp U3224KB monitor, which also uses a Nano IPS Black panel. However, design wise, LG has taken a leaf out of Apple's book and gone for a metal look with a very Apple-esque stand design, for better or worse.

The 32U990A should be the world's first monitor with Thunderbolt 5 support, which can deliver up to 80 Gbps of data, or technically 120 Gbps when connected to a monitor, far more than would be needed to drive the display in this case. This also means that it's compatible with DisplayPort 2.1, although this might be exclusive via a USB Type-C port. The only other specs that LG has shared is that the panel offers a wide colour gamut, covering 99.5 percent of the Adobe RGB and 98 percent of the DCI-P3 colour space. The monitor also has calibration support, something that matters for those that work in product where colour accuracy matters. Expect this one to be pricey, as even Dell's rather munduane looking U3224KB is going for close to US$2,500.

Brelyon, an MIT spin-off innovating in the computational display space, today announced Ultra Reality Extend, an immersive display line that renders virtual images in multiple depths. As the first commercial multi-focal monitor, the Extend model offers multi-depth programmability for information overlay, allowing users to see images from 0.7 meters to as far as 2.5 meters of depth virtually rendered behind the monitor; organizing various data streams at different depth layers, or triggering focal cues to induce an ultra immersive experience akin to looking out through a window.

"Building on the success of our Ultra Reality product, we're taking advantage of new GPU capabilities to process light and video signals inside our display platforms," said Barmak Heshmat, CEO of Brelyon. "We are thinking beyond headsets and glasses, where we can leverage GPU capabilities to do real-time driving of higher-bandwidth display interfaces. Maturing the industry from the age of photorealism to the age of photon realism, and designed for high-performance applications such as simulation and training, control centers, and teleoperations, Ultra Reality Extend is a new platform for AI and light to impact enterprise visualization, navigation, and computer interaction."

ViewSonic at 2025 International CES: 27-inch and 16-inch Wireless Monitors, and More

The display uses Wi-Fi TX and a USB-C dongle to wirelessly get its display input from a supported source, such as a modern laptop. If you prefer wired connectivity, you get DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4. The display specs are nothing to write home about—1080p 60 Hz with 250 nits brightness; but the main pull is the wireless connectivity. The monitor isn't exactly portable, it looks conventional, but has a quick-setup stand. ViewSonic will launch this one later this quarter (before April).

For portability, the company has the VG1656N, a 16-inch portable monitor that you can cast wirelessly to. It features a 16:10 aspect ratio with 1920 x 1200 resolution, and 60 Hz refresh rate. The monitor features a folio-type cover-stand. This monitor is available now for $300. We also spotted the XG275D-4K, a 27-inch wired monitor with 4K Ultra HD resolution. ASUS Upcoming ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM is a 27-inch 4K 240 Hz Gaming Monitor

ASUS has published the product page for its upcoming ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM gaming monitor, which will go head to head with the MSI MPG272URX on which will hit retail as the first 27-inch 4K 240 Hz display. The PG27UCDM sports a 26.5-inch panel using what ASUS refers to as 4th gen QD-OLED technology, which the company claims offer longer lifespan compared to previous generations of OLED panels. The panel sports typical OLED features such as a 0.03 ms response time, a peak brightness of 1,000 cd/m², 99 percent DCI-P3 colour space coverage and VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black. The display also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync compatible, as well as a host of ASUS specific gaming features such as ELMB, GameFast Input Technology, Shadow Bost and a DisplayWidget.

Inputs consist of a DisplayPort 2.1 port with UHBR20 (80 Gbps) support, a USB Type-C with DP-Alt mode and USB PD up to 90 W and a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports. There's also a three port USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) USB hub with what we presume is a USB Type-B input and a headphone jack. The reason for the presumed USB Type-B input, is that the specs claim KVM support and this would only be possible if there was a USB input of some kind, but this isn't mentioned in the tech specs. The stand is your typical higher-end model with tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustment, as well as ASUS' Aura Sync lighting and a tripod mount at the top. ASUS claims a power consumption of around 80 Watts, although this doesn't include USB PD. A big plus is that ASUS will bundle a DisplayPort 2.1 DP80 cable in the box, something for example Sony decided not to include with their INZONE M9 II which launched in September last year. There's no word on pricing for the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM, but expect it to be on the expensive side of US$1,000.
