Shipments of Monitor Panels Are Projected to Show YoY Decline of 8.8% for 2022, Says TrendForce

Shipments of monitor panels have fallen over the quarters this year due to various factors that have caused disruptions across the global economy and politics. TrendForce projects that shipments of monitor panels will total just around 158 million pieces for 2022, showing a YoY decline of 8.8%.

According to TrendForce's research on the market for display panels, monitor panels experienced a large downward shipment correction later than did TV and NB panels. For TV panels, the correction phase began in 3Q21. Turning to NB panels, a steep decline in shipments occurred in 2Q22. As for monitor panels, their shipments had not fallen significantly until 3Q22. With the correction taking place at a later time, the eventual rebound will also occur at a more distant time in the future. Since monitor brands are still holding an excessively high level of panel inventory at this moment, shipments of monitor panels are forecasted to drop again by 5.3% QoQ for 1Q23.

Alienware 500 Hz Gaming Monitor Leaks Ahead of CES Reveal

The general tech specs aren't likely to impress most people, as the display panel is as one would expect, only a 1080p panel, although it's at least a fast IPS panel rather than a TN panel.

The AW2524H delivers 480 Hz natively over DP, but has an OC setting which makes it reach 500 Hz. Based on the leaked picture of the rear of the display, it'll have some RGB elements, as well as a height adjustable stand, which most likely also allows the display to be rotated. The leaker didn't provide any kind of pricing, but expect this one to be a very expensive 1080p display.

Dough Announces New Crowd-Developed Spectrum OLED Monitor Featuring 27-inch 240Hz QHD Panel from LG Display

Today, DOUGH—the world's first community powered gaming hardware creator—announced the Spectrum ES07E2D, a new 27-inch QHD OLED panel gaming monitor coming in 2023. This groundbreaking display builds on the foundations laid by Dough's crowd-developed Spectrum lineup and is the first OLED monitor truly built for top-tier gaming, leveraging a gaming-grade 240 Hz OLED panel developed by LG Display. Consumers interested in purchasing the new Dough Spectrum ES07E2D can sign up today to enter a special reduced-price pre-order window on Dough's website.

Dough attended the 59th International Display Week Symposium, Seminar & Exhibition in May 2022, where it shared its take on major display trends and polled the community to find out which of the upcoming displays they found most exciting. A 27-inch QHD OLED panel from LG Display raised the most interest and discussion. Based on these survey results, Dough picked this panel as a starting point for its latest monitor project, thus giving life to the Dough Spectrum ES07E2D. With an adaptive refresh rate up to 240 Hz, and individually lit pixels, the Dough Spectrum ES07E2D features smooth animations without distracting tears or stutters along with a response time of less than one millisecond. OLED is already one of the fastest technologies on the market, and Dough focused on reducing display lag as much as possible to provide the best competitive gaming experience to users.

Samsung Launches the ViewFinity S8UT 4K Monitor with Thunderbolt Support

This year has seen the arrival of a lot of Thunderbolt connected monitors and Samsung is joining the fray with a new model, the ViewFinity S8UT. The 27-inch 4K IPS monitor is very much an office model, as it only has a 60 Hz refresh rate with a 5 ms response time (GtG). The panel is edge lit and has a typical brightness of 350 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. The monitor supports Picture-by-Picture and Picture-in-Picture, courtesy of multiple inputs.

The interesting part of this monitor is the Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, as the main port can output 90 W for charging a connected laptop, while the secondary port can deliver 15 W. The monitor supports Thunderbolt daisy chaining, which isn't a common feature on monitors. The S8UT also sports an HDMI 2.0 port, a three port USB 3.0 hub, a Gigabit Ethernet port and a 3.5 mm headphone socket, as well as a pair of integrated stereo speakers. The stand supports pivot, swivel, tilt and height adjustment. The S8UT comes with a three year warranty, but there's currently no word on pricing.

MSI Teases 49-inch Super Ultra-Wide QD-OLED Monitor

If LG's 45-inch OLED monitor isn't quite big enough for you, MSI might have what you've been waiting for, as the company has teased its upcoming Project 491C 49-inch QD-OLED monitor on Twitter. This is yet another massive OLED display that supports 240 Hz refresh rate, but beyond that, the company didn't share any real details of the display. The company has apparently already won a CES 2023 innovation award for the monitor, although we couldn't find any details about it on the CES website. MSI will apparently reveal the full details of the display at CES in January, so we're going to have to wait until then for the full details. We should note that this is the second QD-OLED display from MSI, which announced the 34-inch MEG 342C earlier this year.

LG Launches 45-inch Ultra Wide OLED Monitor for Gaming

If LG's 27-inch 1440p OLED monitor wasn't your cup of tea, the company has launched a second UltraGear branded gaming OLED monitor with an entirely different form factor. The UltraGear 45GR95QE-B as it's known as, is a 45-inch ultra wide monitor with a 3440 x 1440 pixel resolution, giving it an aspect ratio of 21:9. As with the 27-inch 27GR95QE-B, we're looking at a 240 Hz refresh rate here and the same 0.03 ms GtG response time and the ability to display up to 1.07 billion colours. However, this is where the similarities end, as the 45GR95QE-B's massive panel means that LG made it a curved display and it's very curved at 800R. Despite its enormous size, it has a pixel pitch of a mere 84 PPI, which is very low, especially as a normal pixel pitch for a 3440 x 1440 display is somewhere around 110 PPI on a 34-inch display, which places this closer to a 27-inch 1080p display.

The monitor has two HDMI and one DP input, as well as one upstreams and two downstreams USB 3.0 ports. It also has an S/PDIF out, a headphone jack with DTS HP:X support and a barrel plug for an external 19.5 Volt power brick. LG doesn't provide a typical power consumption, but the power brick can deliver 210 Watts. It also comes with a remote, for changing the settings. Other features include VRR, FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible support. It also has the same gaming features as LG's other UltraGear monitors. The supplied stand supports tilt, height and swivel adjustments. For those considering this massive display, which measures almost a metre wide, make sure your desk can handle the weight, as it comes in at almost 11 kg. LG's asking price for this beast of a monitor isn't for those with a tight budget, as it's a rather steep US$1,699.99.
