ASUS Upcoming ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM is a 27-inch 4K 240 Hz Gaming Monitor

ASUS has published the product page for its upcoming ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM gaming monitor, which will go head to head with the MSI MPG272URX on which will hit retail as the first 27-inch 4K 240 Hz display. The PG27UCDM sports a 26.5-inch panel using what ASUS refers to as 4th gen QD-OLED technology, which the company claims offer longer lifespan compared to previous generations of OLED panels. The panel sports typical OLED features such as a 0.03 ms response time, a peak brightness of 1,000 cd/m², 99 percent DCI-P3 colour space coverage and VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black. The display also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync compatible, as well as a host of ASUS specific gaming features such as ELMB, GameFast Input Technology, Shadow Bost and a DisplayWidget.

Inputs consist of a DisplayPort 2.1 port with UHBR20 (80 Gbps) support, a USB Type-C with DP-Alt mode and USB PD up to 90 W and a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports. There's also a three port USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) USB hub with what we presume is a USB Type-B input and a headphone jack. The reason for the presumed USB Type-B input, is that the specs claim KVM support and this would only be possible if there was a USB input of some kind, but this isn't mentioned in the tech specs. The stand is your typical higher-end model with tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustment, as well as ASUS' Aura Sync lighting and a tripod mount at the top. ASUS claims a power consumption of around 80 Watts, although this doesn't include USB PD. A big plus is that ASUS will bundle a DisplayPort 2.1 DP80 cable in the box, something for example Sony decided not to include with their INZONE M9 II which launched in September last year. There's no word on pricing for the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM, but expect it to be on the expensive side of US$1,000.

AOC Introduces a Trio of New Gaming Monitors Ahead of CES 2025

Just ahead of CES 2025, prominent display maker AOC has introduced a trio of new gaming monitors. First up, we have the Q25G4S, a 24.5-inch IPS monitor with an impressive 300 Hz refresh rate, ideal for esports titles. The QHD resolution allows for a decent pixel density at its size, making it well-suited for content consumption as well. The monitor boasts dual HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 port, and an audio jack. The monitor appears to be plenty ergonomic as well, with swivel, pivot, tilt and height adjustments courtesy of its included ergonomic stand.

Next up, we have the AOC 27G11ZE3, sporting a 27-inch IPS panel with a slower but impressive 260 Hz refresh rate. The 1080p monitor claims 99% of sRGB color gamut coverage, which is perfectly decent, but the overall content consumption experience will certainly be held back its poor pixel density. The monitor sports a DisplayPort 1.4 input, along with dual HDMI 2.0 inputs. When the latter is used, refresh rate will be limited to 240 Hz. An audio jack is also present.

Minisforum Launches Portable Monitor With Dual 1080p Displays

Portable monitors are undoubtedly a rather niche category of displays, but there sure are people who can greatly benefit from their existence. For such people, the recently announced Minisforum MDSA156 sure does sound like a great product, at least on paper. At a price of $231, the portable monitor is quite affordable too. In fact, the MDSA156 gives buyers not one, but two displays connected with a 315° hinge, with the bottom display having a kick stand built in which allows for multiple setups to fit varying use cases. The product sports dual Type-C ports, as well as an HDMI port for input.

Both the displays sport a 1080p 15.6 inch IPS panel, providing plenty of pixels for all kinds of workloads. Weighing in at just a hair below 1 kg (2.2 lbs), the MDSA156 is commendably portable as well. Minisforum's website has listed out a variety of setups for the product, which have been attached below. However, with a peak brightness of just 250 nits and a mere 45% coverage of the NTSC color gamut (72% of NTSC ≈ 100% sRGB), the MDSA156 is certainly not meant for any kind of professional usage on the go, at least the kinds that depend on color reproduction. For other workflows, however, the product does look enticing for those who can take advantage of the displays.

As mentioned previously, the 31.5-inch display is plenty expansive for most use cases, and utilizes the QD-OLED display technology. This allows the monitor to have an impressive maximum brightness, which MSI claims to be 1,000 nits at a 3% APL along with an HDR True Black 400 rating. Unsurprisingly, the inherent benefits of OLED panels are all present, including excellent contrast ratios facilitated by true blacks, and near-instantaneous response times. MSI offers a three-year warranty on the panel, which is good enough considering industry standards.

At 109 PPI, the monitor is likely best suited for content consumption rather than creation, although the claimed 99% DCI-P3 coverage and maximum HDR brightness of 1,000 nits (3% APL) might suggest otherwise. Being an OLED, the response times are exceptionally fast, at 0.03 ms G2G.
