CD Projekt Red Anticipates "The Witcher IV" Release Window: After 2026

CD Projekt RED unveiled its primary development project late last year: The Witcher IV. A pre-rendered cinematic trailer—utilizing a highly-customized Unreal Engine 5 build running on mystery NVIDIA GPU—showcased next-generation visuals. As revealed by NVIDIA in the new year, a GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card acted as the processing conduit for CD Projekt Red's fantasy featurette. Months later, company leadership has divulged a very loose timeframe for the highly-anticipated sequel's eventual launch. During a recent call with investors—exploring financial results from 2024, and future forecasts—the company expects profits to climb consistently over the next three years. As highlighted by many news reports, long-term franchise fans will need to remain patient—CD Projekt's calendar for next year seems to be free of forthcoming AAA content: "even though we do not plan to release The Witcher 4 by the end of 2026, we are still driven by this financial goal."

Given the Polish company's flagship branch kicking into a "full production" high gear phase around late 2024, a project on the (triple-A+) scale of The Witcher IV would require a long gestation period. Renewed online theories have placed a potential release window somewhere in 2027, possibly coinciding with the rollout of next-gen consoles. A noted industry soothsayer and veteran games journalist—Jason Schreier (resident at Bloomberg)—weighed in on the matter. He has dismissed many predictive reports about The Witcher IV arriving in 2026, as well as Naughty Dog's "The Heretic Prophet"—commenting on this topic, he stated: "I'm pretty sure I said they were both going to be very early teases. Neither of those games will be out next year." Piotr Nielubowicz—CD Projekt's chief financial officer—did not go into specifics during his firm's recently concluded earnings call: "we are not going to announce the precise launch date for the game yet. All we could share now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026."

People Can Fly Stepping Away from VR Development & Publishing

With reference to the current report No. 54/2023 dated 12 November 2023 regarding the conclusion of the agreement for the production of project Bison, the Management Board of PCF Group S.A. with its registered office in Warsaw (the "Company" or the "Issuer") informs that on 6 March 2025 it agreed with Incuvo S.A. with its registered office Katowice ("Incuvo"), a subsidiary of the Issuer, on the terms of the final stages of work on project Bison, which cover the period until the game's release, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. As part of these arrangements, there were minor changes to the scope of the project and the previous terms of mutual settlements between the parties. According to the changed plan for project Bison, Incuvo will participate in covering a small part of the costs related to the further production of project Bison in exchange for a share of a certain portion of future revenues received by the Company in connection with the publishing and distribution of the game, but only up to the amount that Incuvo allocates to increase the budget for the final stage of production of project Bison.

At the same time, the Management Board of the Company conducted an analysis of the current activities of the Company's capital group (the "Group") in the segment of games designed for virtual reality (VR) platforms, the prospects for further development within this segment, taking into account the current situation of the Group and the change in the market situation consisting in a significant reduction in investments in the production of new VR games by VR hardware platforms holders, which negatively affects the assessment of the future commercial potential of this segment, based on which on 6 March 2025 it decided to phase out the Company's VR game publishing activities.

Reikon Introduces Metal Eden, Slated for Launch on May 6

Hello everyone! We are very happy to be in the latest State of Play announcing to the world that Metal Eden, an adrenaline rush sci-fi FPS, will be releasing on May 6, 2025. Before we dive deeper into the gameplay, let's introduce you to the world of Metal Eden. First, a little bit of context. In the future, humanity ventures among the stars. To survive the journey to new star systems, humanity created the Cores. Each Core is a system capable of storing human data, preserving a digital record of a human psyche and rebuilding it upon reaching its destination. One such destination is Moebius, an artificial city built by corporations to extract precious minerals from the planet Vulcan. You are Aska, an android created by one of the city's founders. Nexus, your creator, has one goal for you: Follow orders, and maybe you will be able to save the inanimate colonists trapped in the Citadel.

One of the most unique gameplay mechanics in Metal Eden is Core Ripping. This feature enhances the combat experience by adding a strategic layer to how players engage with enemies. In this post, we'll delve into how you can master this ability to dominate your foes and make the most of Aska's powerful skills. The reveal trailer shows that, equipped with the Multitool, Aska can use its Gravity Beam to rip Cores out of enemies' bodies. Once grabbed, you can throw their Core at your enemies, creating an explosion. Brutal Core Ripping for quick and effective enemy disposal! Alternatively, Aska can consume the core. Consuming a core offers different advantages depending on your choices throughout the game - Like empowering your melee attacks, mobility or survivability. We will share more information about this in the future.

Tulpar Handheld Gaming PC Demoed at Intel Extreme Masters

The recently concluded Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) event (in Katowice, Poland) played host to another emerging Windows 11 handheld gaming computer—attendees spent hands-on time with potentially Meteor Lake APU-powered pre-release devices. International audiences were treated to a small selection of photos from IEM, as teased by Team Blue's Gaming division last weekend: "A new handheld PC is approaching. The Tulpar brings gaming on the go!" Exact details/specifications and user impressions have not reached the wider world, but many believe that rebadged Emdoor EM-GP080MTL units were showcased in Southern Poland last week. Tulpar is a subsidiary company of Turkish brand, Monster Notebook—it mainly sells gaming laptops and gear in UK and German markets.

Tulpar's mysterious handheld reportedly sports a seven inch display, indicating that it is a slightly smaller device when lined up against the EM-GP080MTL model (8-inch, 1200p). Internet sleuths reckon that the Tulpar shares many of the same technical underpinnings—general Emdoor OEM specs seem to include an unspecified Intel Core Ultra Meteor Lake-H processor, Arc Graphics 5 and 32 GB LPDDR5X. The EM-GP080MTL was unveiled several months before the debut presentation of MSI's Claw—another Meteor Lake-H-based handheld—at last month's CES trade show. Later on, MSI confirmed that three distinct Claw SKUs will be heading to retail—with an entry-level version sporting Intel's Core Ultra 5-135H CPU, and more expensive options utilizing Core Ultra 7-155H processors.

The Thaumaturge's Launch Date Moved to March 4

We—Fool's Theory—are happy to share that the game is now complete, and numerous reviewers have it already in their hands. At the same time, taking February's busy launch period into account and the opening for a better release window, we've decided to take this opportunity to give The Thaumaturge more breathing room so it receives the attention we believe it deserves.

We want you to have enough time to enjoy the game in full, and we feel that the current release window is not the perfect moment for it. With that in mind, we are moving the launch date to March 4th, 2024. The additional time we're getting will be used to polish the game further so that your journey through the streets of 1905 Warsaw is even more enjoyable. We truly can't wait for you to play it, and thank you for your patience!

Witchfire Available Now via Early Access

"The witchfire in my blood had cooled, with most of it having already evaporated. Were the last drop to have gone, so would I be too, awakening in Hell. The rescue, unlikely as it was, came thanks to human greed and stupidity." This line—taken from a short story called The Preyer written by The Astronauts' Creative Director Adrian Chmielarz—sets up the world of Witchfire, releases today (September 20) in Early Access on the Epic Games Store. Just before launch, we interviewed Chmielarz and The Astronauts Game Designer Karol Krok and asked them what to expect from Witchfire, how it came to be, and what the development process was like. Read on for more details...

Swapping sci-fi for fantasy
If you haven't heard much about Witchfire, it's because The Astronauts is a small studio and unwilling to share spoilers—and every reveal they make feels like it could be a spoiler. Not too much is known about Witchfire, as a result. "We want the players to have that beautiful experience of discovering things on their own, to be surprised," Chmielarz said. "We promise to show more near the Early Access release day, so everyone can make an informed decision." The Astronauts released a trailer during Summer Game Fest back in June that demonstrated how Witchfire will have an element of exploration and discovery, of planning and thinking. At the same time, it offers plenty of action as well. It's a dark fantasy with spells—and it's also a first-person shooter with guns, as you can see from the trailers. It's technically a roguelite, or similar to a dungeon crawler, with harsh death conditions for the player. And The Astronauts also advertise Witchfire as having multiple ways to win.

Intel Plans Assembly and Test Facility in Poland

Intel today announced that it has selected an area near Wrocław, Poland, as the site of a new cutting-edge semiconductor assembly and test facility. This facility will help meet critical demand for assembly and test capacity that Intel anticipates by 2027. Intel expects to invest up to $4.6 billion in the facility, which will have the capacity to expand. When completed, the facility will support approximately 2,000 Intel employees. The construction of the facility is also expected to create several thousand more jobs, in addition to eventual hiring by suppliers. Design and planning for the facility will begin immediately, with construction to commence pending European Commission approval.

Intel's planned investment in Poland, combined with its existing wafer fabrication facility in Leixlip, Ireland, and its planned wafer fabrication facility in Magdeburg, Germany, will help create a first-of-its-kind end-to-end leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing value chain in Europe. It will also serve as a catalyst for additional ecosystem investments and innovation in Poland and across the European Union.

"Project Sirius" Witcher Spin-Off Back on Track, CD Projekt Confirms Staff Layoffs at American and Polish Studios

CD Projekt declared in an investor regulatory announcement (issued on May 11) that its troubled "Project Sirius" multiplayer game was back on track with a renewed development focus. Their briefing is titled: "New framework for Project Sirius, decision concerning partial reversal of the impairment allowance for 2022, and write-off of part of the development expenditures incurred in Q1 2023." As reported back in March, the Polish gaming group made the difficult choice to reboot its multiplayer focused Witcher title and write-off a significant chunk of the development budget. Last week's update seems to indicate that their North American studio, The Molasses Flood, is still involved in the making of Project Sirius and that a smaller chunk of project expenditure has been written off in the mean time.

The company's investor announcement coincided with emerging rumors of employee layoffs - gaming news outlets started to pick up on social media declarations last Friday (May 12). Yesterday CD Projekt confirmed that the refocused and restarted development process has resulted in a round of headcount cuts on both sides of the Atlantic. In a statement issued to PC Gamer, a company spokesperson says: "Because the project changed, so has the composition of the team that's working on it - mainly on The Molasses Flood's side. The concrete number of employees we parted ways with is 21 team members in the US and 8 in Poland (working on the project outside of the US)."

Cyberpunk 2077 Experiences Sales Boost, CD Projekt Rakes in Almost $222 Million in Revenue

CD Projekt has revealed that 2022 was its second-best year in terms of financial results - it cites an uptick in sales of action role-playing shooter Cyberpunk 2077 as the main reason behind the nice boost to its earnings - around $222 million in revenue, leading to about $80 million in net profit. The Cyberpunk intellectual property has expanded beyond the scope of the video games format and onto the small screen - evidently a combination of the Netflix anime series adaptation and continued efforts into polishing and expanding the game has spread a positive word of mouth. The company states: "In 2022 CD PROJEKT RED carried out intensive work on Cyberpunk 2077, which resulted in successive updates and the next-gen console edition of the game. An important event was the well-received Netflix premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It attracted many new players to the game, and convinced many others to revisit Night City."

Adam Kiciński, CEO of CD PROJEKT was buoyed by these results and set expectations for continuations in both fields in the future: "The popularity of the series and the positive reception of the update, released a week before the premiere, had a notable effect on Cyberpunk sales and general sentiment around the game, as evidenced by gamers' reviews. This is a clear sign that deeper involvement in our franchises and expanding their reach is the right way to go. Another important event supporting the Cyberpunk franchise will be the release of Phantom Liberty - a large expansion scheduled for this year."

CD Projekt Quietly Restarts Development of The Witcher Spin-Off Game, Project Sirius is a Financial Write-Off

CD Projekt has admitted to writing off the development funds spent so far expended on Project Sirius - a codename for a satellite studio produced spin-off game in its best selling The Witcher series. The Polish development and publishing group is restarting Project Sirius from scratch, and it is not clear whether their East Coast USA-based outfit, Molasses Flood, will remain as part of the rebooted cycle. Within a recently released company financial report its reasoning was made clear: "The aforementioned decision is based on results of evaluation of the scope and commercial potential of the original concept of Project Sirius, and ongoing work on formulating a new framework for this project."

CD Projekt had spent over $7 million in 2022 on development costs for Project Sirius. More than $2.2 million has been spent in 2023, presumably right up until the decision to bin all currently completed work. Project Sirius was announced in the autumn of 2022, and at around that time Molasses Flood was undertaking a large scale recruitment drive. The game was in a pre-production phase by the end of the year, with over sixty members of staff confirmed to be working on it. Development was also being supported by members of CD Projekt RED's team at their Warsaw headquarters, and now it is very apparent that the overseers were not happy with what was going on in New England.
