11 Bit Studios Presents "The Alters"

Hello everyone! We—11 bit studios—are excited to share with you the latest trailer. Have a first look at the gameplay and meet the game's protagonist(s)! The Alters is a base-building survival game driven by life-defining choices and exploring the diverse paths one could take. The inhospitable planet where Jan crash-landed is turning toward a massive sun, causing radiation levels to soar; in this desperate race against time, Jan must harness local Rapidium crystals to create his many versions: the "alters".

Set within an ever-moving mobile base, both teamwork and building a wide range of expertise are indispensable for survival. By selecting diverging paths for the other Jans during the alteration process, they acquire distinct skill sets. They become invaluable, not only for maintaining the base, but also for tasks like cooking, crafting tools for surface exploration, and gathering essential resources.
However, the Alters are more than mere resources. They are sentient beings with their own emotions, problems, goals, and sometimes, existential doubts about their purpose. Despite their differences, their collective goal is to escape, echoing Jan's determination to survive: I'll just do it all by myselves.

Getting XCOM and XCOM2 vibes with that base.
Also, RIP Firaxis.

The concept is...unique I suppose.
But I seriously doubt the impression I would feel seeing all 'myself' all men gathering in the 'social room' I somehow chose to build inside a base looked like it is about to tip over at any time...

The Civ and XCOM guy left, as did most of the XCOM team.

Civ7 is still planned but XCOM has been pronounced dead for all intents and purposes.

What's left of Firaxis is just a shell of Take2 employees with the Plants vs Zombies 2 monetisation and P2W expert at the helm. Firaxis by name, but not in spirit.

He was the XCOM director to me. I don't really play Civ.
Civ isn't dead either, since that's already heading in a direction in line with the "new Firaxis" agenda of monetisation over gameplay.

XCOM, XCOM2, Chimera Squad were all really enjoyable for me - multiple playthroughs and DLCs - and I was sad to hear that the XCOM franchise was pronounced dead.

Ok so I thought "the Civ guy" meant Sid Meier.

Yeah, turns out he's staying - I read it was the studio head of 25 years and just assumed that was Sid - apparently Sid Meier didn't hold that role, it was a guy called Steve Martin which the internet tells me is this guy on the left:
