GIGABYTE Rolls Out Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER WaterForce WB Graphics Card

GIGABYTE today followed up on its Wednesday launch of its premium liquid-cooled GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER graphics card that has a factory-fitted AIO closed-loop liquid cooler, with its twin that's targeted at DIY liquid cooling users. The new Aorus RTX 2080 SUPER WaterForce WB comes with a factory-fitted full-coverage water-block, which you can connect to your DIY liquid cooling setup using your own G 1/4" fittings.

The block is made of nickel-plated copper mated to an acrylic top that's studded with addressable-RGB LED elements, and a brushed-metal top-plate. In addition to the block, the included metal back-plate comes with an aRGB-illuminated Aorus logo. The underlying PCB is identical to that of the RTX 2080 SUPER WaterForce, and comes with factory-overclocked speeds of 1860 MHz GPU Boost (vs. 1815 MHz reference). The card offers a staggering seven display outputs, three each of DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0b; and a VirtualLink. It draws power from a pair of 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The company didn't reveal pricing, but the card is backed by a class-leading 4-year warranty, which could particularly come in handy for the water-block's wear.

NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super Chips Come in Three Variants Each. Flashing Possible?

While working on GPU-Z support for NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX Super cards, I noticed something curious. Each of the RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super is listed with three independent device IDs in the driver: 1F06, 1F42, 1F47 for the former and 1E84, 1EC2, 1EC7 for the latter. GeForce RTX 2080 Super on the other hand, like nearly every other NVIDIA SKU, uses only a single device ID (1E81). The PCI device ID uniquely identifies every GPU model, so the OS and driver can figure out what kind of device it is, what driver to use, and how to talk to it. I reached out to NVIDIA, for clarification, and never heard back from them besides an "interesting, I'll check internally" comment.

With no official word, I took a closer look at the actual values and remembered our NVIDIA segregates Turing GPUs article, that was part of the launch coverage for the initial GeForce RTX unveil. In that article, we revealed that NVIDIA is creating two models for each GPU, that are identical in every regard, except for name and price. If board partners want to build a factory-overclocked card, they have to buy the -A variant of the GPU, because only that is allowed to be used with an out of the box overclock. Manual overclocking by the users works exactly the same on both units.

GIGABYTE Unveils the Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Xtreme WaterForce Graphics Card

GIGABYTE today unveiled the Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Xtreme WaterForce, its most premium offering based on the recently launched GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER GPU. Its design involves a factory-fitted 2-piece AIO liquid-cooling solution for the GPU, held together by coolant tubing. Under the shroud, the pump-block draws heat directly from the GPU and a base-plate that soaks up heat from the memory chips and VRM. Heat is dissipated by a 240 mm x 120 mm radiator ventilated by a pair of 120 mm spinners optimized for radiator-ventilation. With these, the card serves up factory-overclocked speeds of 1860 MHz GPU Boost compared to 1815 MHz reference, while the memory is untouched at 15.5 Gbps GDDR6.

The Aorus RTX 2080 SUPER Xtreme WaterForce is awash with RGB LED embellishments on almost every surface. A large acrylic diffuser takes centerstage on the cooler shroud. There are additional diffusers on the card's top, right next to the two 8-pin PCIe power inputs, and an Aorus logo on the back-plate. The two 120 mm fans each have five aRGB LEDs in the impeller-hubs. Controlling all this is GIGABYTE's RGB Fusion software. Display outputs include three each of HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4; and a VirtualLink port. GIGABYTE is backing this card with a class-leading 4-year warranty. The company didn't reveal pricing.

NVIDIA Releases Studio Driver 431.70 WHQL

NVIDIA today updated its GeForce Studio Driver to version 431.70 WHQL. NVIDIA had in March 2019 forked its client-segment GPU drivers to two, the regular GeForce "Game Ready" drivers targeting gamers and regular desktop users; and the special Studio Drivers targeting content creators who don't necessarily own expensive Quadro hardware but could do with certain professional features and application support. These drivers still won't turn your GeForce to Quadro, and won't give GeForce "certifications" for major 3D and content-creation applications, but will ensure compatibility by making the most of existing hardware features of GeForce or TITAN GPUs.

Version 431.70 adds support for GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER, RTX 2070 SUPER, and RTX 2060 SUPER GPUs; expands the list of G-SYNC compatible monitors; and adds support for new content creation applications, namely Magix VEGAS Pro v17, Autodesk Arnold, Allegorithmic Substance Painter 2019.2, Blender 2.80, Cinema 4D R21, and Otoy Octane Render 2019.2. AMD Readies Larger 7nm "Navi 12" Silicon to Power Radeon RX 5800 Series?

AMD is developing a larger GPU based on its new "Navi" architecture to power a new high-end graphics card family, likely the Radeon RX 5800 series. The codename "Navi 12" is doing rounds on social media through familiar accounts that have high credibility with pre-launch news and rumors. The "Navi 10" silicon was designed to compete with NVIDIA's "TU106," as its "XT" and "Pro" variants outperform NVIDIA's original RTX 2060 and RTX 2070, forcing it to develop the RTX 20 Super series, by moving up specifications a notch.

Refreshing its $500 price-point was particularly costly for NVIDIA, as it was forced to tap into the 13.6 billion-transistor "TU104" silicon to carve out the RTX 2070 Super; while for the RTX 2060 Super, it had to spend 33 percent more on the memory chips. With the "Navi 12" silicon, AMD is probably looking to take a swing at NVIDIA's "TU104" silicon, which has been maxed out by the RTX 2080 Super, disrupting the company's $500-700 lineup once again, with its XT and Pro variants. There's also a remote possibility of "Navi 12" being an even bigger chip, targeting the "TU102."

NVIDIA Launches the GeForce RTX 2080 Super Graphics Card

NVIDIA today launched the GeForce RTX 2080 Super graphics card, priced at USD $699. The card replaces the RTX 2080 from this price-point, which will be sold at discounted prices of around $630, while stocks last. The RTX 2080 Super is based on the same 12 nm "TU104" silicon as the original, but is bolstered on three fronts: first, it maxes out the "TU104" by enabling all 3,072 CUDA cores. Second, it comes with increased GPU Boost frequency of 1815 MHz, compared to 1710 MHz of the original; and lastly it comes with the highest-clocked 15.5 Gbps GDDR6 memory solution.

The card ships with 8 GB of memory across a 256-bit wide memory bus, which at 15.5 Gbps works out to roughly 496 GB/s of memory bandwidth, a 11 percent increase over the original RTX 2080. Other specifications of the GeForce RTX 2080 Super include 192 TMUs, 64 ROPs, 48 RT cores, and 384 Tensor cores. NVIDIA is allowing its board partners to launch custom-design boards that start at the same $699 baseline.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super Features 10 Percent Faster Memory

NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 2080 Super graphics card doesn't just max out the 12 nm "TU104" silicon and add higher GPU clock-speeds, but also features the highest-clocked GDDR6 memory solution on the market, to make the most of the 256-bit wide memory bus of the silicon. NVIDIA deployed 15.5 Gbps GDDR6 memory, which is 10.7 percent faster than the 14 Gbps memory used on the original RTX 2080 and other RTX 20-series graphics cards. The memory real-clock is set at 1937 MHz compared to 1750 MHz on the original RTX 2080. At this memory frequency, the RTX 2080 Super enjoys a memory bandwidth just a touch short of 500 GB/s, at 496 GB/s.

Besides memory, the RTX 2080 Super maxes out the "TU104" silicon by enabling all 3,072 CUDA cores physically present, as opposed to just 2,944 of them being enabled on the original RTX 2080. The card is also endowed with 192 TMUs, 64 ROPs, 384 Tensor cores, and 48 RT cores. The GPU frequencies are set at 1650 MHz with 1815 MHz GPU Boost, compared to 1515/1710 MHz of the original RTX 2080. NVIDIA is launching the RTX 2080 Super at an MSRP of USD $699, with availability slated for July 23. The company's add-in card (AIC) partners are allowed to design custom-design cards that come with improved cooling solutions and higher clocks.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 Super Market Availability Revealed

NVIDIA is giving its GeForce RTX 20-series product family a mid-cycle refresh with the RTX 20 Super-series, which sees performance uplifts across price-points, in the wake of AMD's Radeon RX 5000 "Navi" series. The company is expected to formally announce the series tomorrow (2nd July, 2019), but VideoCardz has learned the dates more relevant to you: market availability. According to them, while all three Super SKUs will be announced on July 2nd, namely the RTX 2060 Super, the RTX 2070 Super, and the RTX 2080 Super; market availability will vary.

The GeForce RTX 2060 Super and the GeForce RTX 2070 Super will be available to purchase on the 9th of July, 2019. The high-end GeForce RTX 2080 Super will be available from the 23rd of July. The RTX 2060 Super will launch at USD $399, which is on-par with the Radeon RX 5700, and $50 higher than the original RTX 2060. The RTX 2070 Super will displace the original RTX 2070 at USD $499, which could push its lower. The RTX 2080 Super will launch at USD $699, displacing the original RTX 2080. VideoCardz speculates that the original RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 (non-Ti) will attain EOL status after tomorrow's announcement. The remaining RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 units in the market will be sold at discounted prices.

NVIDIA RTX SUPER Lineup Detailed, Pricing Outed

NVIDIA has officially confirmed pricing and SKU availability for its refreshed Turing lineup featuring the SUPER graphics cards we've been talking about for ages now. Primed as a way to steal AMD's Navi release thunder, the new SUPER lineup means previously-released NVIDIA gppahics cards have now hit an EOL-status as soon as their souped-up, SUPER versions are available, come July 2nd.

The RTX 2060 and RTX 2080 Ti will live on, for now, as the cheapest and most powerful entries unto the world of hardware-based raytracing acceleration, respectively. The RTX 2070 and RTX 2080, however, will be superseded by the corresponding 2070 SUPER and 2080 SUPER offerings, with an additional RTX 2060 SUPER being offered so as to compete with AMD's RX 5700 ($399 for NVIDIA's new RTX 2060 SUPER vs $379 for the AMD RX 5700, which is sandwiched in the low-end by the RTX 2060 at $349).

NVIDIA's SUPER Tease Rumored to Translate Into an Entire Lineup Shift Upwards for Turing

NVIDIA's SUPER teaser hasn't crystallized into something physical as of now, but we know it's coming - NVIDIA themselves saw to it that our (singularly) collective minds would be buzzing about what that teaser meant, looking to steal some thunder from AMD's E3 showing. Now, that teaser seems to be coalescing into something amongst the industry: an entire lineup upgrade for Turing products, with NVIDIA pulling their chips up one rung of the performance chair across their entire lineup.

Apparently, NVIDIA will be looking to increase performance across the board, by shuffling their chips in a downward manner whilst keeping the current pricing structure. This means that NVIDIA's TU106 chip, which powered their RTX 2070 graphics card, will now be powering the RTX 2060 SUPER (with a reported core count of 2176 CUDA cores). The TU104 chip, which power the current RTX 2080, will in the meantime be powering the SUPER version of the RTX 2070 (a reported 2560 CUDA cores are expected to be onboard), and the TU102 chip which powered their top-of-the-line RTX 2080 Ti will be brought down to the RTX 2080 SUPER (specs place this at 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM and 3072 CUDA cores). This carves the way for an even more powerful SKU in the RTX 2080 Ti SUPER, which should be launched at a later date. Salty waters say the RTX 2080 Ti SUPER will feature and unlocked chip which could be allowed to convert up to 300 W into graphics horsepower, so that's something to keep an eye - and a power meter on - for sure. Less defined talks suggest that NVIDIA will be introducing an RTX 2070 Ti SUPER equivalent with a new chip as well.

NVIDIA Teases Something "Super"

NVIDIA late Thursday posted an eyebrow-raising teaser video for something with the word "Super" part of its branding. The video has no voice caption, and is titled "Something Super is Coming." It shows a silvery brushed metal surface with a stylized "Super" logo carved into it. It's anybody's guess what this could be. A new graphics card? An all-in-one gaming desktop? A new mobile gaming platform? A VR headset? Take a guess, because we've run out of them. The only hint dropped by NVIDIA is the YouTube hashtag "#GeForce" that goes with the video, so we know for sure that this is a client-segment gaming product.
