In March of 2022, AMD released the latest AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series processors with our OEM partner Lenovo and the ThinkStation P620. As AMD continues to expand its workstation business, we're happy to share that Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series processors will be available at leading system integrators worldwide beginning in July, 2022. We also expect to make these processors available to our DIY community later this year.

Threadripper processors have always been a platform that is defined by leadership performance and capability which enables unlimited creative potential. AMD recently drew the curtain on AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO next generation workstation processors. For this new series of processors, GIGABYTE launched the MC62-G41 using the WRX80 platform that is also backwards compatible with the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3000 WX Series processors. The WRX80 chipset supports CPUs up to 64 cores and 128 threads, along with 8-channel memory (ECC/non-ECC) DDR4-3200 and 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes.

MSI Is ready with the monstrous WS WRX80 motherboard for AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO workstation processors. Slotted in the company's MSI PRO lineup, the board is based on the AMD WRX80 chipset, features the sWRX8 CPU socket, and comes with out of the box support for Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX processors based on the "Zen 3" architecture, as well as previous-generation Threadripper 3000WX "Zen 2" processors. Built in the E-ATX form-factor, the board draws power from a 24-pin ATX, two 8-pin EPS, as well as two 6-pin PCIe power. It uses an expensive 14-layer PCB, and the CPU VRM solution is made up of 11 phases, using 105 A power-stages.

The sWRX8 socket is flanked by eight DDR4, each with a dedicated 1DPC path to the processor's 8-channel memory interface. There are seven PCI-Express 4.0 x16 slot, all wired to the processor and running at full x16 bandwidth. There could be as many as four M.2 NVMe slots with PCI-Express 4.0 x4 wiring, with an included M.2 to PCIe card with four additional M.2 slots. Other storage options include two U.2 ports, and eight SATA 6 Gbps. Networking options include 10 GbE, 2.5 GbE, and Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.2. There's also an ASpeed AST2600 BMC IPMI remote-management chip with its dedicated 1 GbE management port. USB connectivity includes 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 ports. We'll know more about this board as Threadripper PRO 5000WX nears retail availability. Right now it's exclusive to the Lenovo ThinkCenter P620 pre-built workstation.

Lenovo today announced the next-generation of its ThinkStation P620 desktop workstation. The workstation continues to be the only tier 1 professional workstation available on the market powered by the latest AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processor. Building on its original unprecedented levels of power and performance in a single-socket platform, the latest ThinkStation P620 boasts the next-generation of AMD's Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX-Series processor, offering up to 25% performance improvement over the previous generation. Additionally, the tower workstation is also available with a new 24 core CPU option, allowing for greater expansion and configurability amongst professional users.

As today's workflows continue to grow increasingly complex, coupled with the need to support hybrid working environments, users demand flexibility and extreme performance in a workstation platform. Creators, architects, engineers and designers need to be able to get more done in less time so that shots can render faster and 3D visualizations and simulations can run seamlessly in real-time.

AMD today launched its first Ryzen Threadripper processors based on the "Zen 3" microarchitecture, with the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX series. Designed to be drop-in compatible with workstations and motherboards based on the AMD WRX80 chipset, these processors come in core-counts of up to 64-core/128-thread, with an enormous I/O offering that includes 8-channel DDR4 memory with ECC support, and a 128-lane PCI-Express 4.0 root complex. The biggest change over the previous generation Threadripper PRO 3000WX series has to be the use of "Zen 3" CCDs, each with 8 CPU cores, sharing a common 32 MB of L3 cache. AMD isn't using the "Zen 3" chiplets with 3DV Cache.

The full AMD PRO management feature-set from Ryzen PRO is available on these processors, including PRO Security, PRO Management, and a special support channel that includes planned parts and software availability. What's more, AMD has been working with ISVs of most professional content-creation software since the past generation of Ryzen Threadripper PRO, to optimize their software for the processors (high core-counts, NUMA topology, etc.). The benefits of these are shared with all generations of Threadrippers. Although all parts in the Threadripper PRO 5000WX series are rated for a TDP of 280 W, AMD claims to have worked on power-management, offering up to 67 percent lower power per core, compared to the competition (2P Xeon Scalable Platinum 8280).

It will be an unexpectedly busy March for AMD, with the company launching three distinct products across its processor lines. The first one, which we reported earlier this morning, speaks of a late-March availability of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-core/16-thread Socket AM4 processor, which AMD claims offers gaming performance on par with the Core i9-12900K "Alder Lake." It turns out, there are two more surprises.

Apparently the company is ready with Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 series workstation processors. Designed for Socket sWRX8 motherboards based on the only chipset option available—the AMD WRX80, these are the first Threadripper products based on the "Zen 3" microarchitecture, and feature 8-channel DDR4 memory, and up to 128 PCI-Express Gen4 lanes for workstation connectivity. Unfortunately, you can't buy one of these in the retail channel, as AMD is making them OEM-only. The first pre-built workstations will arrive as early as next week (March 8). At this point we still don't know if these chips use the newer "Zen 3" CCD with 3D Vertical Cache, or the conventional "Zen 3" CCD with 32 MB planar L3 cache.

AMD is preparing to update its Ryzen Threadripper PRO line of workstation processors, with product announcements slated for January 2022, along the sidelines of CES, with availability slated for March 8, 2022, according to a VideoCardz report. The new Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000 series processors are likely to combine "Zen 3+" CCDs (6 nm, featuring 3D Vertical Cache memory), with full sWRX8 I/O that includes 128 PCI-Express Gen 4 lanes, and 8-channel DDR4 memory. There are no sTRX4 options on the horizon.

What's interesting with the lineup is that CPU core-counts range all the way from 12-core/24-thread to 64-core/128-thread. Past generations of Threadripper WX stuck with higher core-counts (32 and up). The series begins with the Threadripper PRO 5945WX (12-core/24-thread), followed by the PRO 5955WX (16-core/32-thread), the PRO 5965WX (24-core/48-thread), PRO 5975WX (32-core/64-thread), and the 64-core/128-thread PRO 5995WX. There's no 48-core part in the stack. The TDP of all these chips is rated at 280 W.

GIGABYTE Technology,an industry leader in high-performance servers and workstations, today announced two new W-series workstations, W771-Z00 for AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors and W331-Z00 for AMD Ryzen processors, as well as a WRX80 chipset motherboard, MC62-G40, and a TRX40 chipset rack server, G182-C20. Remote work and a high level of compute for 3D design or engineering are driving factors for these new professional products.

Today's engineers and power users are focused on high demanding workloads and require a powerful workstation to enable them to work effectively and efficiently. The W771-Z00 coupled with a top-tier processor from the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO family, such as the 3995WX with 64 cores 128 threads, make this the most powerful workstation to date. The motherboard for this workstation is the MC62-G40. Based around the AMD WRX80 chipset, the W771-Z00 shares high-end features that are typically only found in servers.

AMD's 64-core Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5995WX will be the flagship processor for the upcoming Ryzen Threadripper 5000 Series that will be launched later this year. This particular processor has already surfaced on the Milky Way@Home distributed computing database along with the Threadripper PRO 5945WX. This latest benchmark comes from PugetBench (now removed) where the processor was tested in the photogrammetry software Agisoft Metashape 10. The 5995WX was paired with an AMD reference platform Sharkstooth-CGL WRX80 motherboard and 64 GB of 3200 MHz memory.

The benchmark includes rendering times for various tests including Park Map, Rock Model, School Model, and School Map where the processor generates a 3D object from a set of photos. There are only extremely limited results with other processors to compare to so this benchmark cannot be used as an indication of performance. The Ryzen Threadripper 5000 Series should be fully compatible with existing TRX80 and WRX80 motherboards and is currently expected to launch in Q4 2021.

AMD is preparing to launch the Ryzen Threadripper 5000 "Chagall" HEDT processors in August 2021, according to a MoePC report, confirming a rumor from April 2021. These chips will arrive in core-counts of up to 64, spanning two CPU socket types—sTRX4 (Ryzen Threadripper) and sWRX8 (Ryzen Threadripper PRO), and compatible with existing motherboards that run Ryzen 3000 Threadrippers, requiring a UEFI firmware update. Nearly every retail sTRX4 motherboard we've come across features USB BIOS Flashback, letting you update the firmware of an off-the-shelf motherboard without needing to install a compatible processor.

What's new with the Ryzen Threadripper 5000 is the new "Zen 3" CCDs, which place all 8 CPU cores of the die into a single CCX, sharing a unified 32 MB L3 cache. The I/O is identical to the previous generation, with the sTRX4 chips featuring quad-channel DDR4 interface, and sWRX8 ones featuring 8-channel, both with ECC; and up to 88 PCI-Express Gen 4 lanes. AMD also slightly increased the xGMI2 bandwidth to 18 GT/s, from 16 GT/s on the Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series.Many Thanks to DeathtoGnomes for the tip.

Corsair today introduced its largest all-in-one liquid CPU cooler, the iCUE H170i Elite Capellix, augmenting the iCUE Elite Capellix series the company debuted in September 2020. This cooler lugs along a large 420 mm x 140 mm radiator, and a high-pressure pump-block, making it capable of HEDT applications including 280 W TDP Ryzen Threadripper PRO chips in the sWRX8 and sTRX4 sockets. Among the other sockets supported are AM4, LGA2066, LGA1200, and LGA115x.

While the pump-block is essentially of the same design as other models in the series, with its "split flow" micro-fin lattice, and Capellix LED-illuminated top, the flow-rate is suitably increased to match with the larger 420 mm radiator, at 0.82 L/m. Each of the three included 140 mm fans turns at speeds of up to 2,000 RPM, and features magnetic-levitation bearings. The company didn't reveal air-flow or air-pressure numbers, but mentioned noise output to be up to 37 dBA at top speed. A Corsair iCUE Commander Core RGB controller comes included with the cooler. Available now, the iCUE H170i Elite Capellix is priced at USD $229.99.

AMD today announced that the Ryzen Threadripper PRO workstation processors will be directly available for purchase from March 2021. Until now, the processors were exclusively available as options for the Lenovo ThinkStation P620 workstation. The processors are being released alongside a small selection of compatible motherboards by ASUS and GIGABYTE. The Threadripper PRO processors are built in the sWRX8 package, and compatible with the AMD WRX80 chipset. From what we can tell, these processors are not compatible with sTRX4 motherboards.

What sets the Ryzen Threadripper PRO apart from the regular Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series is that it's a fully unlocked "Rome" multi-chip module re-configured for the workstation, with up to 64 CPU cores, 8-channel DDR4 memory, and 128 PCI-Express Gen 4 lanes. In comparison, the Ryzen Threadripper 3000 chips only feature 4-channel memory, and fewer 72 PCIe Gen 4 lanes from the SoC. The PIB (processor in box) retail package of the Ryzen Threadripper PRO looks rather plain compared to the PC enthusiast-focused Threadripper 3000, with a simple paperboard box that packs the processor, an Asetek AIO CLC adapter, and a spring-loaded screwdriver that's tuned for the sWRX80 socket.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3000 PRO line of ultra high-end processors with 8-channel DDR4 memory and 128-lane PCI-Express were a bit of a nothingburger for the DIY PC community as AMD made it exclusive to Lenovo for its ThinkStation P620 pre-built workstations. The hope for Threadripper PRO hitting the DIY scene increased in December 2020, with GIGABYTE unveiling a the WRX80 SU8, a motherboard sold in the open market, albeit designed mainly for servers and not workstations that are loaded with I/O. ASUS is about to change this.

Here's the first picture of the ASUS WS WRX80 SAGE, a no-holes-barred workstation motherboard based on the AMD WRX80 chipset, supporting Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3000 series processors. This board wires out each of the processor's eight memory channels to its own DIMM slot (1 DIMM per channel), and spreads the processor's lavish PCIe 4.0 lane budget among seven PCI-Express 4.0 x16 slots, three onboard (and possibly four by AIC) M.2 NVMe slots, a pair of U.2 NVMe slots, and I/O that very likely includes a pair of 10 GbE connections. Getting the board is the easy part. You'll need to hunt down a Ryzen Threadripper PRO sWRX80 processor, and a PSU that can feed the board's three 8-pin EPS, and two 6-pin PCIe, besides the 24-pin ATX.

AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) today announced revenue for the second quarter of 2020 of $1.93 billion, operating income of $173 million, net income of $157 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.13. On a non-GAAP basis, operating income was $233 million, net income was $216 million and diluted earnings per share was $0.18. "We delivered strong second quarter results, led by record notebook and server processor sales as Ryzen and EPYC revenue more than doubled from a year ago," said Dr. Lisa Su, AMD president and CEO. "Despite some macroeconomic uncertainty, we are raising our full-year revenue outlook as we enter our next phase of growth driven by the acceleration of our business in multiple markets."

Videocardz seems to have snagged some official AMD slides detailing their upcoming Threadripper PRO lineup. AMD is tiering its Threadripper CPU offerings between the Threadripper and Threadripper PRO via added functionality that AMD considers is better suited to the prospective buyers of a PRO-branded Threadripper: professional studios, designers, engineers and data scientists. AMD's positioning for these creatives or scientists is to offer a much improved platform throughput compared to Threadripper: the PRO version supports up to 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes (64 in non-PRO); up to 2 TB of ECC memory support (either in UDIMM (Unbuffered DIMM), RDIMM (Registered DIMM), LRDIMM (Load-Reduced DIMM) and 3DS (three-dimensional stacking) RDIMM vi an 8-channel configuration (4-channel in non-PRO); as well as professional-oriented tools and features such as Pro Security, Pro manageability, and PRO business ready support.

Four different CPUs will reportedly be offered in the Threadripper PRO lineup: the 64-core 3995WX is a relatively known quantity by now; likewise, the 3975WX will mirror consumer parts core counts (32 cores), both with reduced clocks by 100-200 MHz compared to their non-PRO counterparts. AMD seems to also be launching 12 and 16-core PRO Threadrippers in the form of the 3955WX (16-core) and 3945WX (12-core), both with boost clocks being set to 4.3 GHz.

AMD's 64-core HEDT processor with an 8-channel memory interface, the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX, could debut in a Lenovo-branded workstation. Lenovo's Workstations division recently tweeted a big workstation announcement for 14th July, 2020, the same day AMD is expected to announce the 3995WX. "A new Lenovo workstation is coming soon, and we aren't going to just change the game. We plan to change the rules," the tweet reads. This is also a major hint as to the availability of the 3995WX. It won't surprise us if the processor will be an OEM-exclusive (if not a Lenovo-exclusive). The Threadripper PRO 3995WX, in addition to the Ryzen PRO feature-set, reportedly features an 8-channel DDR4 memory interface, doubling the memory bandwidth over that of the current retail-channel flagship 3990X.

Here is the first picture of the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX processor, designed to be part of AMD's HEDT/workstation processor launch for this year. The picture surfaced briefly on the ChipHell forums, before being picked up by HXL (@9550pro) This processor is designed to compete with Intel Xeon W series processors, such as the W-3175X, and is hence located a segment above even the "normal" Threadripper series led by the 64-core/128-thread Threadripper 3990X. Besides certain features exclusive to Ryzen PRO series processors, the killer feature with the 3995WX is a menacing 8-channel DDR4 memory interface, that can handle up to 2 TB of memory with ECC.

The Threadripper PRO 3995X is expected to have a mostly identical I/O to the most expensive EPYC 7662 processor. As a Ryzen-branded chip, it could feature higher clock speeds than its EPYC counterpart. To enable its 8-channel memory, the processor could come with a new socket, likely the sWRX8, and AMD WRX80 chipset, although it wouldn't surprise us if these processors have some form of inter-compatibility with sTRX4 and TRX40 (at limited memory bandwidth and PCIe capabilities, of course). Sources tell VideoCardz that AMD could announce the Ryzen Threadripper PRO series as early as July 14, 2020.
