Toshiba Announces PX02SS SSD for Write-Intensive Workloads

The Storage Products Business Unit of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., a committed technology leader, announces a new addition to its family of enterprise solid state drives (eSSD), the PX02SS. In capacities of up to 800GB1, the new 2.5-inch form factor SAS interface eSSD is designed for various write-intensive enterprise applications and is ideally suited for large workloads, such as data processing and online transactions.

The PX02SS features a 12 Gb/s SAS interface, and select models offer industry standard self-encrypting technology. With high transaction workloads in mind, the newest eSSD supports up to 30 full drive writes per day for all available capacity points and has a layered error correction code (ECC) approach for improved reliability. The PX02SS underscores the breadth of Toshiba's storage products, both SSDs and hard disk drives (HDDs) for mobile and enterprise markets, giving customers a "one stop shop" capability for their storage requirements.

Toshiba Announces Slim HDD for Thin Laptops

The Storage Products Business Unit of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., a committed technology leader, announces the slim, 7mmH two platter MQ02ABF series 2.5-inch 5,400 RPM SATA hard drive disk (HDD). The MQ02ABF series is Toshiba's first two platter 7mm HDD model, delivering up to 1TB1 of storage capacity with both the performance and power efficiency required for thin mobile computing applications. Available in 750GB1 and 1TB, the MQ02ABF HDD series features a rigid chassis design and dual stage head positioning technology.

"The MQ02ABF series fulfills our customers' desire for a high capacity 7mm form factor HDD required for today's thin and light laptops," said Don Jeanette, senior director of product marketing at Toshiba's Storage Products Business Unit. Toshiba Announces Canvio Connect and Canvio Slim Mobile Portable HDD Series

Toshiba announced two additions to its Canvio family of external storage solutions, with the Canvio Connect and Canvio Slim Mobile series. Canvio Connect is line of colorful, high-capacity external HDDs, which take advantage of USB 3.0, and are bus-powered. The drives come in capacities of 2 TB, 1 TB, and 500 GB. The drives measure 79 x 111 mm (WxD), with 15 mm thickness for the 1 TB and 500 GB variants; and 20.5 mm for the 2 TB variant. The Canvio Connect series includes a remote-access software that lets you access its contents over the Internet.

The Canvio Slim Mobile, on the other hand, is all about keeping things slim. It isn't too different from the Canvio Slim II series launched this June, featuring a brushed aluminium body garnish, in silver and graphite trims, 75 x 107 mm (WxD), with 9 mm thickness for the 500 GB, and 12.5 mm thickness for the 1 TB variant.

Toshiba Looking to Buy-out OCZ's Consumer SSD Business

Once a leading SSD vendor, OCZ is finding itself in trouble from two fronts, an increasingly competitive market landscape with the entry of big names such as Samsung, Seagate, and WD; and legal irritants with the SEO. The company is reportedly putting its consumer SSD business up for sale, and Toshiba is emerging to be a front-runner for buying it out. Such a deal could see Toshiba acquiring OCZ's consumer SSD division, and the various brands associated with it, including its Indilinx-Barefoot derived SSD controllers, which are still quite competitive. SSDs could proliferate further with the upcoming SATA-Express standards.

Toshiba Introduces Larger Capacity USB 3.0 Flash Drives

Toshiba Electronics Europe has launched an updated range of Super Speed USB 3.0 flash memory USB drives. The TransMemory-EX II drives feature increased read and write speeds and are available with capacities of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.

Utilizing Toshiba's Double Data Rate (DDR) NAND, the new products can read or write 25 GB of video content in approximately 5 minutes - 22 times faster than with USB 2.0-based models. The drives are powered by the USB port and can read data at speeds up to 222 Mbytes/s.

Corsair Unveils the Force LS Series Solid State Drives

Corsair has today announced a new addition to its solid state drive offer, the Force LS Series models which are powered by a Phison controller and make use of Toshiba MLC NAND Flash memory. These SSDs have a 2.5-inch form factor (7 mm high), SATA 6.0 Gbps connectivity, TRIM support, and deliver sequential read/write speeds of up to 560/535 MB/s.

Toshiba Launches 7,278 rpm 2.5-inch HDD Series with 7 mm Height

Toshiba Corporation today announced that it will expand its family of small form factor 2.5-inch HDDs with a new series that packs up to 500GB of data storage into a unit with a height of just 7mm. The new "MQ01ACF" series will start shipping from August 30.

The "MQ01ACF" series is Toshiba's first 7,278rpm, 2.5-inch product with a 7 mm height. The series offers two models: the "MQ01ACF050" with a recording capacity of 500 GB and the 320 GB "MQ01ACF032". A maximum internal transfer rate of 1,850 Mbit/s is realized by improvement to linear recording density and the 7,278 rpm rotational speed. Implementation of the 6 Gbit/s SATA interface also boosts data transfer rates over those of current models.

Plextor Set to Reveal M6 SSD Prototype at Flash Memory Summit

Toshiba Unveils New SD Memory Cards Offering World-Fastest Write Speed

Toshiba Corporation today announced that it will launch a new series of SD memory cards offering the world's fastest data write speed. The latest edition to its line-up of EXCERIA memory cards designed to offer users of high-end digital cameras an excellent experience, the EXCERIA PRO and EXCERIA cards will be launched in major markets worldwide, starting with Japan in October.

EXCERIA cards compliant with UHS-II will be available in two series. Toshiba Expands its Semiconductor Facility at Yokkaichi

Toshiba Corporation today announced that it will expand its state-of-art No. 5 semiconductor fabrication facility (Fab 5) at Yokkaichi Operations in Mie, Japan, to secure manufacturing space for NAND flash memories fabricated with next generation process technology and for future 3D memories. Fab 5 second phase construction will start at the end of August this year and be completed in summer next year. Decisions on equipment investment and production will reflect market trends.

Yokkaichi Operations currently has three Fabs mass producing NAND flash memory, including Fab 5 phase 1. Fab 5's construction was planned around two phases, the first of which went into operation in July 2011. After giving careful consideration to the balance of product supply and demand, and noting a recovery driven by growing demand for smartphones, tablets, SSD for enterprise servers and other new applications, Toshiba now anticipates further medium- to long-term market expansion and recognizes that the time is right to expand Fab 5.

Toshiba Announces Largest Capacity Automotive-Grade Hard Drive in the World

The Storage Products Business Unit of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., announces the world's largest capacity automotive-grade hard disk drive (HDD), the Toshiba MQ01AAD032C 320 GB SATA automotive HDD. As part of the Toshiba MQ01AADxxxC series, the MQ01AAD032C drive addresses the auto industry demand for higher capacity HDDs, which allows for improved in-vehicle user experience, as well as facilitates a growing range of on-board technological applications and functions.

As the industry's highest capacity single platter automotive-grade HDD, the MQ01AAD032C addresses the needs of telematic infotainment applications where proven reliability, performance and capacity are required. Equipped with Toshiba's NAND flash and available in 500GB1 and 320GB capacities, the MQ01ABFH series is the first Toshiba SSHD drive family in 7 mm. The series continues Toshiba's legacy of providing world-class storage products, and offers customers a complete lineup of 2.5-inch solid state hybrid drives with the previously announced 1 TB and 750 GB MQ01ABDH series 9.5 mm SSHDs for ultrathin and thin and light notebook PCs, multimedia and gaming applications, and traditional laptop PCs.

Drawing upon its knowledge and experience in NAND flash, Toshiba optimized the NAND flash performance into a tiered-storage approach that uses the speed of the DRAM and NAND components with the high-capacity of rotating media. The SSHD delivers SSD-like performance without dependence on external drivers or assistance from the host system. The PCMark Vantage Average HDD Score, the established industry method for measuring SSHD read/write performance and responsiveness, for the MQ01ABF500H is approximately 20,000, surpassing the 16,000 industry standard result.
