Later today NVIDIA will finally release the new nForce 780i and 750i chipsets and one of the first manufacturers to answer the call for new hardware is MSI. What Micro-Star International has prepared are the P7N Diamond and the P7N SLI Platinum motherboards. The nForce 780i-powered Diamond and the 750i-boasting Platinum both feature MSI's Circu-Pipe cooling systems and come with full support for Intel's 45nm Core 2 processors (Yorkfields and Wolfdales), DDR2-1066 support and SLI. The higher-end P7N Diamond is triple-SLI ready and features no less than four PCI-Express x16 slots, while the Platinum board is equipped with three PCI-Express x16 slots, but supports only dual-card setups. Both boards feature solid capacitors and support eSATA but are separated by the number of SATA ports (6 for the Diamond, 4 for the Platinum) and Ethernet interfaces (two on the Diamond). ASUS P5N-T Deluxe will be the firm's nForce 680i series successor. Brought to fix some of the nForce 680i bugs, the ASUS P5N-T Deluxe uses NVIDIA's soon to be released nForce 780i chipset, which is in fact a 680i with an added additional PCIe 2.0 bridge. NVIDIA is planning to launch its Intel-based nForce 780i chipset in December this year, however mass shipments will not occur until January next year. The nForce 780 SLI chipset will be available to two forms, the nForce 780i SLI (C72 XE) supporting Intel and nForce 780a SLI (C72 P) supporting AMD. The nForce 780i will target Intel's X38 chipsets as its major competitor. It will support PCI Express 2.0 and 3-way SLI technology with three PCI Express x16 slots. Motherboard pricing will be around US$200. With most of the features of the 780i similar to those of the X38 with the added benefit of 3-way SLI, some motherboard makers expect the chipset to have a good chance of performing well in the market. The chipset will also feature NVIDIA's ESA (Enthusiast System Architecture) to monitor the PC hardware status. In related news, NVIDIA's support for DDR3 will show up in the first quarter next year.

The NVIDIA nForce 780i chipset has been reported for having issues with Intel's Penryn processors. The exact issues remain unknown but the chipset will be delayed an additional two months and will not expected until December. NordicHardware also reports that the nForce 780i might possibly be the same as the nForce 680i with an additional PCIe bridge chipset and identical performance. However, we all hope the 780i will be much more than its predecessor.

Less than two weeks from now NVIDIA will be releasing its nForce 780i chipset marked to bring tri-SLI support for all hardcore users. GIGABYTE is going to be among the first motherboard manufacturers to introduce nForce 780i powered board. The GA-780SLi-DS5 has now been pictured and can be viewed just below. The board comes with two heatpipes cooling system, six SATA ports, three PCIe x16 slots that are tri-SLI ready and four DDR2 memory slots supporting DDR2-1066. The GA780SLI-DS5 will be released next month and is likely to have a bigger brother (DS/Q6).

NVIDIA will be releasing the nForce 700 series chipset for both AMD and Intel platforms in the month of November. The nForce 780i for the Intel platform is set to have a hard launch on November 12, the same day the G92 and G98 are rumored to be available in shops. The new chipset will support 1066 FSB Core 2 processors, 1333 FSB processors, and the upcoming 45nm Yorkfield and Wolfdale processors. It will also have three PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots ready for Tri-SLI, two Gigabit Ethernet controllers, and six SATA 3.0 ports. While the C72 (780i) only supports DDR2, NVIDIA plans to release the C73 chipset with DDR3 support in the first quarter of 2008.
