Overclocking

Overclocking results listed in this section are achieved with the default fan and voltage settings as defined in the VGA BIOS. We choose this approach as it is the most realistic scenario for the majority of users.

Every sample overclocks differently, which is why our results here can only serve as a guideline for what you can expect from your card.

Maximum overclock of our sample is 1150 MHz GPU clock (10% overclock). GPU overclocking potential is quite slim. AMD hinted at much higher overclocking potential in their briefings, so I'm a bit disappointed.

The HBM memory can not be overclocked at this time. Catalyst Control Center has no options for memory overclocking; I tried a few things to change memory clock and was immediately greeted by visual corruption, which suggests that something did change, but the card isn't yet designed to retrain the memory interface and adjust timings, which AMD could add at a later time through a BIOS or driver update.

Overclocked Performance

Using these clock frequencies, we ran a quick test of Battlefield 3 to evaluate the gains from overclocking.

Actual 3D performance gained from overclocking is 5.1%.
