Overclocking

We set a voltage of 1.4 V, which is in line with what a good air cooler can handle, and increased frequencies step by step. While the processor was almost stable at 4.1 GHz, we never managed to get it fully stable, even with higher voltages or a 240 mm AIO watercooling solution. So we settled for 4.0 GHz as the maximum overclock, which is 100 MHz lower than the maximum out-of-the-box boost frequency, so a small performance loss is expected for single-threaded workloads. As our Clock Frequency Analysis shows (page 16), the processor will quickly drop clocks to around 3.5 GHz when more than four thread are active; here, the 4.0 GHz manual OC can shine to maximize performance.
