Value and Conclusion

  • The 32 GB (4x 8 GB) Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz kit is available for US$349.99.

  • Unique styling
  • Heavy duty heat sink
  • No RGB LED
  • Expensive
  • No RGB LED
  • Poor overclocking
The Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz is stylish in a minimalist way that will appeal to those enthusiasts who shun the ostentatious trends that are popular in high performance memory. The build quality is absolutely excellent. This kit feels solid in a way very few kits I have tested have managed. The lack of RGB LEDs can be a pro or a con depending on who you ask, but despite the fact that I am usually in favor of customizable lighting, I did not miss it on this kit.

Looks aside, the Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz performed well in my testing with top marks in the AIDA64 memory benchmark. I was able to reach the rated XMP speeds and timings by simply activating XMP in the BIOS of my MSI X299 Creation, and I experienced absolutely no stability issues whatsoever in my testing. Overclocking was not so great. Typically, the more sticks you add, the more potential points of failure there are. With my maximum clock being just 3800 MHz, only 200 MHz over the XMP rating, the Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz proved especially poor in this department.

The Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz is an attractive, minimalist quad-channel memory kit with rock-solid build quality and great performance. I personally really like its overall design and think there is potential here. If the Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz had made a better showing in my overclocking test, I might have come to a different conclusion, but at US$350, it is very hard to recommend when similarly specced kits can be had for fifty dollars less.
