A Closer Look
Like its sibling, the Pure Rock 2, the Pure Rock 2 FX uses the same black heatsink comprised of 55 aluminium fins, dissipating heat from four direct touch heat pipes. To maintain perfect memory compatibility, the entire fin stack is offset, which is a nice touch. Meanwhile, the fins themselves have a folded-down area on the outer edge to maintain fin spacing.
Unlike its sibling I reviewed a year or so ago, the Pure Rock 2 FX was not treated as kindly by the local shipping crew. As such, I did have to bend a couple of fins back into place on the bottom of the heatsink. I noticed this on the other unit, too, that essentially, the fins are thin, meaning they can be damaged if manhandled.
The top plate is black like the rest of the cooler, and it looks rather nice with the simple be quiet! logo in white across the middle, adding some nice contrast. To keep with the clean visual aesthetic, be quiet! used heat pipe caps to complete the look, giving the cooler a stylish feel. When it comes to the base, the cooler uses direct touch heat pipes rather than a solid copper cold plate, with a very slight convex shape.
The Light Wings 120 mm fan used by be quiet! on this particular heatsink uses a rifle bearing and has a maximum RPM of 2000.
