Build Quality and Comfort

Beyerdynamic has a long history of making exceptionally comfortable hi-fi and professional monitoring headphones. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that nothing was left to chance in terms of comfort when building the MMX 300 2nd Gen.


The headset uses a pair of large and soft velour-covered ear cushions that surround the ears completely regardless of their size.


The ear cushions can easily be removed and replaced if necessary. They're essentially exactly the same as on various other headphones made by Beyerdynamic, such as the DT 770 Pro, DT 880 Pro, and DT 990 Pro, which is why you'll have an easy time finding replacement ear pads made out of any material that might interest you (leather, regular fabric etc.). They're made and sold by many more or less known manufacturers, and absolutely nothing is forcing you to get them from Beyerdynamic directly.


To better adjust to various head sizes, the ear cups can be moved up and down along the metal frame. This mechanism is stiff, which removes chances of your set height changing accidently.


The inner side of the frame is marked with dots, which will help you adjust the height of both ear cups equally.


The metal headband is extremely robust. Its clamping force is adjusted in a way that has the MMX 300 2nd Gen sit perfectly stable on the head, while at the same time applying no excessive pressure that could potentially be uncomfortable. Thanks to that, as well as the generously padded inner side of the headband, the MMX 300 2nd Gen can be used for very long gaming sessions without a care in the world.


It's always nice to see that a headset has a certain level of flex, as that means it won't break easily because of a table-height drop to the floor. As I've been using the MMX 300 2nd Gen for a good part of the past two months, I had a couple of drops to find out how it handles situations like these. The pictures throughout this review speak for themselves—all were taken at the end of my test, and you'll notice that the MMX 300 2nd Gen looks like new.
