Introduction

Black Myth: Wukong is an action-adventure RPG with some soulslike elements, it takes place in a lush fairy tale world inspired by ancient Chinese mythology and the famous novel Journey to the West. The game centers around Sun Wukong—better known as the Monkey King—and his legendary journey filled with fast-paced battles, bombastic boss encounters, and breathtaking environments. As Sun Wukong, players will unlock a diverse set of skills and abilities, enabling dynamic combat and strategic gameplay. With a rich but somewhat hard-to-follow narrative rooted in Chinese folklore, Black Myth: Wukong offers an enthralling mixture of storytelling, character development, and action, promising an engaging gaming experience.

Black Myth: Wukong is developed by Game Science Studio, a fairly unknown Chinese developer, at least in the West. This is their first AAA title, and we've got to say that it shows great promise. Built using the Unreal Engine 5, the game features impressive visuals and intricately detailed environments that bring the ancient world of Journey to the West to life. The game supports advanced graphical features through DirectX 12, and includes Path Tracing support. Players have the option to choose from various upscaling technologies, including NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, Intel XeSS, or Unreal Engine 5's native temporal upscaling.

This PC gaming handheld benchmark review will test the performance of Black Myth: Wukong on Steam Deck LCD and ASUS ROG Ally, discuss the out-of-the-box experience on SteamOS and Windows, and provide optimized settings for both handhelds.
