Steam Deck Optimized Settings

Black Myth: Wukong won't make the Steam Deck's CPU sweat, but it'll beat the crap out of its iGPU. You can expect frequent instances of stuttering, sometimes completely freezing the game for a couple of seconds.

That said, the game is playable, and you can achieve a relatively stable 30 FPS experience, but the image quality will go down the drain. You can thank the game's sharpening filter, which is super pronounced, for that; it looks like Spinal Tap was responsible for dialing it in. Due to the game's oversharpened presentation, upscaling artifacts are noticeably more pronounced than in most other games that utilize FSR and XeSS. This is a kind of achievement since, usually, even FSR set to "Balanced" doesn't look too shabby on Deck LCD's 7-inch, 800p screen.

Since the game is super demanding you can expect between an hour and a half and two hours of battery life no matter which optimized settings combo listed below you end up using.

60 FPS Optimized Settings

Fuhgeddaboudit! But seriously, Steam Deck is nowhere near powerful enough to run the game at a stable 60 FPS, even with FSR set to Ultra Performance.

40 FPS Optimized Settings

You can make Black Myth: Wukong run at a relatively stable 40 FPS, but you'll have to enable Frame Generation. This will lead to a noticeable increase in latency, so make sure to disable the built-in frame limiter to reduce some of the latency introduced by Frame Generation.

To make the game run at 40 FPS, reduce every setting to "Low," enable Frame Generation, and set the "Super Resolution" slider to 67% or 58%.

While this will push the frame rate counter to values above 40 FPS we don't recommend using Frame Generation on the Steam Deck because the latency it adds makes the game feel very sluggish. Still, do try Frame Generation for yourself instead of blindly following our recommendations. Maybe it will work better in your case, especially if you own the slightly faster Steam Deck OLED, which we didn't test, or in case the game gets a future update that improves latency with Frame Generation enabled.

30 FPS Optimized Settings

To achieve 30 FPS on Steam Deck, set everything to "Low" and dial the "Super Resolution" slider to 67% or 58%. No matter which FSR preset you choose, the game will suffer from relatively frequent sub-30 FPS drops, especially during boss battles and other scenes with heavy action. To limit the frame rate to 30 FPS, use the in-game frame limiter because the built-in one adds extra latency.

Note that Black Myth: Wukong will drop below 30 FPS at times even if you set FSR to "Ultra Performance," i.e., drop the slider all the way to 45%, which is the lowest value we could set the slider on our Steam Deck when we select the 800p resolution.
