Bykski FOUR CPU Waterblock Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The Bykski FOUR CPU waterblock has an MSRP of $99.99; however, street pricing is a lot lower with an average of $70 for customers in the USA.
  • Well built, with customization options
  • Clean-looking block, even with installation done
  • Low liquid-flow restriction
  • Better than average thermal performance owing to the large microfin and cold plate area
  • Installation is not easy, and the lack of a manual only makes it confusing
  • Large cold plate can prevent installation on some motherboards that have capacitors close to the CPU socket
I really did not know what I was getting into when I said yes to Bykski; perhaps it was curiosity that wanted me to see where they were really, and if the products I kept getting linked to and asked about were any good. I am now glad to say that my curiosity has paid off, and I really want to see more of Bykski now.

The FOUR series of CPU blocks is definitely no imitation; it is a massive CPU-only waterblock that is almost the size of some CPU + VRM monoblocks, and even installs as such. Add to that customization options in terms of five color options of the top cover as well as the no-cover version, large microfins and channels spread over a large area for a good combination of low flow restriction and good thermal performance, and pricing intended for the Asian markets making it a good deal for North America and Europe and you end up with a dark horse that many have dismissed so far, but would do better not to henceforth. This is especially true knowing that the cold plate still has scope for improvement in terms of performance, and also ease of installation.

Unfortunately, that is where the story takes a bad turn. Perhaps it is owing to the lack of hardware options to test, or perhaps it is simply the testing and development team having more nimble fingers than mine, but the Bykski FOUR is one of the hardest blocks to install. The absence of a manual of any sort already made things hard, but then there is also the inclusion of a bunch of confusing hardware and the screws being short enough to where it seems impossible to follow the manual as is. The block is too large for what the cold plate is utilized for even, so there is not much reason to use a 90 mm x 90 mm cold plate either.

Get installation handled first and include a decent manual in the box and we will talk expansion and taking on more established brands. Add in an English website and get English language support as well while you are at it. Until then, Bykski will have a challenge on their hands, and the FOUR series of CPU blocks will be more trouble than merit.
