  • High trigger point for the Over Temperature Protection
The Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 1050W, although it is based on almost the same platform as the Silent Pro Gold units, manages to register superior performance especially at ripple suppression, an area where the old models clearly fall behind. Today's review sample, the SPH-1050, boasted high efficiency, low ripple on all rails and quiet operation at normal ambient. The areas that needs further improvement, in my humble opinion, are the loose overall voltage regulation and the fact that fanless operation is activated even when the unit is very hot, leading to excess stress on its sensitive components. Also despite that other Enhance units I have tested in the past tripped the Over Temperature Protection at lower ambient temperatures (sometimes too low for my taste), this unit shows a radical different behavior by not tripping this protection even at very high ambient temperatures. During all the tests I ran, the OTP didn't activate so clearly its trigger point needs lowering.

To sum up, the SHP-1050 is equipped with some very interesting features like the 7V rail and the two 7V fan ports and of course the fan controller that ships with it. Also performance is at good levels and the fact that at low loads it practically operates fanless, makes it a really good choice for all noise haters out there.
Even at high loads and normal operating temperatures, the fan doesn't produce loud noise and with the help of the fan controller, if you select the manual mode, you can adjust the fan speed along with the speed of three case fans to your liking. However you must not over do it and lower the unit's fan speed to very low levels since this way you will heavily stress its components and shorten their lifespan. The biggest drawback of this unit, undeniably, is its high price which is partially justified by the fan controller. Nevertheless in this price range competition gets really tough and our Performance per Dollar graph clearly shows that the Cooler Master SPH-1050 falls behind the competition. If Coolermaster decides to revise its price then it will definitely grant it with a far better price/performance ratio and maybe with a TPU recommendation.
