Cooler Master managed to earn my respect in this tough market segment where even a small mistake can toss a company back to its beginnings with the successful and incredibly well-performing V series. It is normal for Cooler Master to bank on the good reputation their V units garnered them, so nearly every new CM PSU incorporates the letter "V" into its model number. The VSM750 I reviewed today is no exception to the above since the labels on it read "V750" instead of "VSM750" or "V750SM", which, however, might confuse users because there is also a V700 unit by Seasonic in CM's arsenal, and it costs more and performs even better since it belongs to a higher category. Instead of putting it under its larger brother’s shadow, CM should be more clear and to the point with this unit's name. The VSM750 might belong to the mid-level category price-wise, but its performance easily allows it to challenge higher-end units, and while its performance is good overall, it is also incredibly compact, efficient, especially with very low loads, and pretty silent overall. Its complete protections set also enhances its reliability nicely. The only downsides I spotted are its increased price, which makes the unit part of a highly competitive product range, and its many affixed cables as there should ideally only be two, with one EPS connector. I would like to see two EPS connectors in a 750 W unit, although most users will most likely only utilize one. Its ATX and EPS cables should also be a little longer to avoid compatibility problems with larger full-tower cases.
The VSM750 is a very good PSU for a mid-level system with two strong VGAs, and its Japanese caps ensure it is highly reliable in even such incredibly tough conditions as those in which I conduct all of my tests. Like everything in this world, it surely has some shortcomings, but most of you will probably only notice its steep price at which you could find many worthy alternatives. Cooler Master should, in my opinion, lower the price to around 100 bucks or slightly below if they want to meet the competition more effectively by boosting sales.
