Let's get the fundamental impression of the Corsair iCUE 465X RGB out of the way first. Corsair markets the enclosure as a smart case, but I want to make the argument that RGB control via software doesn't necessarily make the enclosure smart. To me personally, "smart" at least entails the ability to control fan speeds in such a scenario.

However, considering the price and what other cases with a built-in controller and software ecosystem go for, the iCUE 465X RGB is still well priced for what it offers. While it may lack the "smarts", it clocks in at a full $50 less than the NZXT 710i, for example, but offers better liquid cooling and a third fan out of the box. That money can go a long way towards some other hardware in your build.

I got one more fun fact for you: the case uses the same frame as the Crystal 275R, for example, which is actually a good thing. Just like that chassis, the iCUE 465X RGB is extremely well built, easy to assemble, and beautifully clean as a finished product. The three retail-grade fans really are an integral part of the look and feel of the design, down to the dust filter Corsair has used for the chassis. On top of that, you will have no issues with large GPUs of up to 370 mm and a PSU of up to 180 mm, giving you plenty of high-wattage options. Lastly, a CPU cooler of up to 170 mm means that most 120 mm towers and all but the biggest 140 mm variants will fit as well. While some may be disappointed by the fact that the bulkiest of units cannot be utilized, it is clear that Corsair is gently pushing the consumer towards their ecosystem, which focuses heavily on liquid cooling. Thus, the iCUE 465X offers excellent compatibility for liquid-cooling setups with the ability to go for a 240 mm radiator in the ceiling and a 360 mm setup in the front of the chassis.

To wrap up, at exactly the price we would expect, the Corsair iCUE 465X RGB utilizes a tried and true base (frame) that offers a fresh external look with several iCUE-controlled, retail-grade RGB fans. This is a safe, functional, beautiful, and enjoyable approach that allows users to dive into the potent and capable Corsair software ecosystem right out of the box.
