Value and Conclusion

  • Decent prices across the board
  • Plenty of options with inexpensive $10 increments based on your needs and budgets
  • Option of RGB lighting or not, with full 16.8 M per-key lighting available
  • Rarely used Cherry VIOLA or Low Profile Speed (Silver) switches
  • The K60 PRO SE comes with doubleshot injected PBT keycaps and a wrist rest included
  • Increased compatibility with aftermarket keycap sets
  • Full programmability and software profiles via the driver allow for the use of different OS/typing/language layouts
  • Six 1st-party replacement keycap sets available
  • Stock keycaps on the non PRO SE models are mediocre at best
  • Only linear feedback switches available, with a single option per unit
  • Cherry VIOLA switches aren't great to type on if I may say so myself
  • The keyboard has plenty of pings, mushy feedback on the space bar, and empty case reverberations
  • Barebones packaging with the so-called PRO models
  • The included plastic ring keycap puller with replacement keycap sets can scratch the keycaps
The CORSAIR K60 RGB PRO keyboard works, so at the very least it meets all expectations for a keyboard. Marketing would have you believe these are fantastic budget keyboards, which I to an extend can see. Starting at $80, the single color backlit model still gives you a very good user experience. My issue is more that the four units in the series are clearly priced to make you want to jump to a higher-priced model, with the K60 RGB PRO SE being my personal pick based on the subjectively much better keycaps, and the wrist rest is nice to have for when you do want one.

I also was expecting the Cherry VIOLA switches for even less in retail keyboards, so the CORSAIR tax didn't help. At $90 for the tested sample, there are so many competing solutions from Asia that give much more for the money. The only reasons to consider the K60 RGB PRO are iCUE and the VIOLA switches, with the latter not really doing the job for me. The keyboard construction also affects this to a significant degree, but there is still more internal friction to these switches than I'd like from a linear switch. There was also more variability between switches. While this isn't something you would necessarily feel when typing normally, it is still an issue combined with the sound signature you get from the keycaps, case, and switches combination. The MX Low Profile version costing $20 more doesn't help, either.

The stock keycaps here aren't great, but at least CORSAIR has well-priced PBT keycap sets in six optional colors. I would still go with the K60 RGB PRO SE if I had to choose between one of the four here, but would personally probably save the money for something else entirely.
