Unlike the Padlock 1, the new revision features the same shape and materials as Corsair's Flash Voyager series. This means that the Padlock 2 is just as resistant to dirt, shock & water as the Voyager drives.

The keypad, which is placed in two rows of five digits each has been shrunk down, but has a very good feel to it when pushed. For those concerned to hit the wrong side of each button, it is quite easy when you hold the stick in your hands like a cell phone and then use your thumbs to press the buttons.

One really interesting thing is that there are only five actual buttons that share two digits. Yes, it makes no difference whether you press to the left or the right when pressing the 0|1 button, for example. As a result the PIN codes 0000 and 0001, 0010, 0011, 0100, 0101, 0110, 1000, 1001, 1010, 1011, 1100, 1101, 1110, 1111 are all equal ! This means that if you use a password with 6 digits for example - which should have 999,999 possible combinations, these suddenly end up to be only 15,625 combinations (10^6 vs. 5^6).


Corsair has placed the blue access LED on the side with the buttons and the opening for the key chain on the rear end. This means that you may lose the plastic rubber cap but not the actual 8 GB flash drive.


As some of you may be aware of, having seen the Voyager up close and personal before, the Padlock 2 is by no means a small unit. Hanging this one on your key chain may prove to be a bit too cumbersome for some - including myself to be honest. The flash drive is quite a bit larger than any keys most of us would have.
