Packaging

All Dark Project mice share the same, elegant, sleek, and minimalist packaging style. The box, which has the usual tech specs and render pictures printed on, has a top and bottom that slide on to each other. These are made out of thick cardboard, and the insides have some dense, thick foam padding. The mouse is well protected inside the packaging, which also contains an extra set of side panels, a sticker, microfiber cleaning cloth, and an extra set of mouse feet. Dark Project is a new and small manufacturer, but they provide such great accessories with their mice—this is how it's done, big companies!

Shape

Why did I call this shape familiar? Well, it's basically the same as the Zowie EC2. It's an OEM shell, which means you could have seen it under different brands already (Talentech was the first as far as I know), and there will probably be others out there in the future. The shell features a right-handed ergonomic design with side buttons on the left side only.


The main design differences between the ME3 and EC2 are that the ME3 features separated main buttons and has modular side panels; more on that a bit later. With a palm grip, the ME3 feels nice and comfortable in my approximately 18 cm long and 9 cm wide hands. The only thing that bothers me is a ledge that sticks out a bit on the right side, above the LED stripe. This is the downside of OEM shells, I guess; stuff like this happens with them.


Moving on to measurements, the ME3 is around 123 mm (4.84") long, which makes it a mouse of medium length. With the standard side panels, the width is 68 mm (2.67") at the widest part, but the actual width at which it is gripped is narrower, being only about 60 mm (2.36"). With the wider, more ergonomic panels, the width increases to about 73 mm (2.83"). It is about 44 mm (1.73") tall at the tallest point, and the hump is quite centered. The mouse has a nicely designed shape that will mainly suit palm grippers, but that is entirely up to personal preference. In my opinion, it will be best for users with 17–19 cm long hands.

Modularity

As mentioned above, the ME3 has two sets of side panels. The first set is without any extra ledges, and the second set features places for your thumb and ring finger to rest. Of course, these can be mixed and matched, so you can use the first set's left panel with the second one's right panel.
