Software

The DM5 Blink comes with its own software that isn't compatible with other Dream Machines mice. If you know the Glorious Model O/O- software then this one should look familiar to you. All available options are accessible on a single page: Profile management, button remapping, and macro functionality, with four tabs on the right side that control CPI settings, lighting, mouse parameters, and polling rate. CPI adjustment is possible from 100–16,000 CPI, in increments of 100 for up to six levels, which can be color-coded as well. The 3389 would be fully capable of 50 CPI increments, so the restriction to 100 CPI steps is rather odd. "Mouse parameter" merely controls the default Windows cursor settings. Annoyingly, the "enhance cursor precision" (which is Windows' desktop acceleration function) checkbox was sometimes randomly ticked when the software was run, and had to be unticked manually when applying any changes. The polling rate setting is entirely non-functional. Polling rate adjustment is only possible directly on the mouse. On my system, the software had a RAM footprint of 14 MB on average.

Lighting

On the DM5 Blink there are four zones for RGB lighting (both sides, scroll wheel, and logo) which cannot be controlled independently of each other. Through the software, it is possible to select one of the nine available pre-defined programs. These are Colorful Streaming (default), Steady, Breathing, Colorful Tail, Neon, Colorful Steady, Flicker, Stars Twinkle, and Wave. "Colorful Streaming" lets the colors blend into each other organically. "Steady" is a permanent single color. "Breathing" is a multi-color fade-in and fade-out effect. "Colorful Tail" sends whole shocks of color throughout the RGB zones. "Neon" is a multi-color transition effect. "Colorful Steady" displays a permanent variety of colors. "Flicker" is exactly what the name implies. "Stars Twinkle" is like "Colorful Steady," just with transitions. "Wave" is very similar to "Stars Twinkle" and a bit redundant. All effects are previewed live in the software. Furthermore, it is possible to adjust the direction and the speed of transitions. Of course, it is also possible to disable the lighting altogether.

Color accuracy and vibrancy are excellent throughout. Here's a short demonstration video of the "Colorful Streaming," "Colorful Tail," and "Flicker" lighting effects:
