  • Good feature set for the money
  • DSP helps with improved tuning
  • Nicely implemented hybrid ANC with five levels
  • Impressive app with lots of customization
  • Parametric EQ helps improve sound signature, albeit only four frequency bands supported
  • Multiple different sound modes available
  • Plenty of sizing and fit options
  • Great for general media consumption
  • Safe volume setting is neat
  • Long battery life and quick charging
  • Multi-point connectivity support
  • Foldable and comes in a handy travel case
  • Can be used in a passive wired mode
  • Tuning could still be improved despite DSP
  • Wired mode is even worse to listen to
  • Ear pads are quite cheap and make your ears run warm sooner than later
  • App needed to make the most of the product
When Edifier first reached out about the WH950NB, I offered to do a quick look article given my busy schedule and crowded backlog of products left to be reviewed. The company representative was fine with it and was confident I would like it nonetheless. Turns out they were right and so much so that I decided to do a full review instead! The WH950NB may not have the best name nor is it perfect by any means, it's a product that requires you to put in a small amount of effort before it decides to reward you with one of the better audiophile experiences for the money, let alone getting that on top of the convenience of having a wireless set with hybrid ANC, external controls, app support, and integrated microphones for communication too. This ends up ticking a lot of boxes for those who want something from Sony, Bose, or Sennheiser but do not have the budget for it. Indeed, I dare say that between the five ANC levels you can get the WH950NB to work well to cancel out noise better than many others and still be impressed by how good the ambient mode here is.

You will need to use the app to do a few things to get to that stage where I am happy to recommend the Edifier WH950NB though, including enabling LDAC codec support and multi-point connectivity, and customize the multi-function button to toggle through the ANC modes and sound modes you desire to have on the headphones. You may also need to play with the EQ profiles Edifier has on the app, and I was pleasantly surprised to see parametric EQ on offer in addition to EQ profiles you can save, share, import, and export too. If you end up purchasing one of these, feel free to PM me here for my EQ profile which helped address the tonality issues I had with the set despite only offering 4-band EQ. Edifier has used DSP to massively improve upon the base driver tuning clearly though, so the wired-only passive mode, which otherwise would be only a positive for when you want to save battery life, ends up being a disaster without EQ that you will need to do with a more competent program. Given no one is going to realistically do this, I'd say stick with Bluetooth and see if you have the patience to play around with the app. If so, this is well worth the money in my books even with Edifier deciding to treat those outside the US worse. If you care more about your time and want something to do very good out of the box itself, then perhaps you may want to save up for something else that is likely going to cost more.
