Packaging
The package of the Define R2 is quite sturdy and features a full color logo of the company. In front you will find an image of the chassis, while the rear goes into greater detail about the enclosure's features. The sides do not hold a lot of information, only which color you will find within the package. What is missing is a list of specifications, I would consider that a vital piece of data and the space is there to print it on the box.
Fractal Design secures the Define R2 with foam spacers and a plastic bag. The spacers are rather compact which means you do not want to drop this case, even when it is packed up as doing so will most likely damage the chassis itself as well.
Contents
Fractal Design has improved things on a few fronts and it is clear that the contents package is part of that improvement. While you receive the same two Velco strips and bag of screws, there is also a 5.25" to 3.5" bay front included in the package instead of inserted straight into the case front. On top of that, the manual has been improved on as well.
The cool little fan controller of the R2 has also made it into the package of the Define R3. It seems to have remained the same and allows you to connect up to three fans to it. A simple, but effective 5.25 inch to 3.5 inch drive bay adapter has also been placed into one of the slots within the chassis. This, along with the supplied front means that you may use a 3.5 inch device within the Define R3 as well - good news, but that was already possible in the Define R2.
