Ripple Measurements

You will see the ripple levels we measured on the Edison M-650's rails of in the following table. The limits are, according to the ATX specification, 120 mV (+12V) and 50 mV (5V, 3.3V, and 5VSB).

Ripple suppression was good overall; however, during the full load and overload tests, we noticed a sudden increase in ripple on the 5V rail, which cost the unit performance points. It was probably in part due to the increased temperatures we conduct our tests in as such a weird ripple waveform is usually due to a switching problem that occurs at high temperatures. These issues also apply to the 3.3V and 12V rails, but to a much smaller degree. We strongly advice Seasonic's engineers to take a look into this matter and fix it as it is a shame for such a good platform to lose performance points because of ripple suppression, an area Seasonic products usually excel in.

Ripple at Full Load

You can see the AC ripple and noise the main rails registered (+12V, 5V, 3.3V, and 5VSB) in the following oscilloscope screenshots. The bigger the fluctuations on the oscilloscope's screen, the bigger the ripple/noise. We set 0.01 V/Div (each vertical division/box equals 0.01 V) as the standard for all measurements.
