Func 1030 Archetype
Surface:
The 1030 Archetype has the same surfaces as the surface1030, namely one with the R value of 10 and another with the R value of 30. Since the surface is black there might be some compatibility issues with some laser mice.
Specs:
- New large surface area (11.5" x 9.5") ensures that you never run out of mousing area at critical moments
- The redesigned Archetype is more than 20% larger than the original surface1030 mousing solution
- Reversible surface sheet has two unique textures to accommodate your preference, both designed to provide exceptionally precise tracking of your optical or laser mouse
Size:
The 1030 Archetype is a bit bigger than the surface1030. Also the usable area is bigger because it’s arched. Still I think it’s too small for low sensitivity gamers like myself, due to the relatively small surface area.
If you use medium to high sensitivity, you should really consider this mat. I think that the smooth surface is ideal for high sensitivity gaming, due to the consistency of glide and tracking. I can only think of one mat that is just at smooth as the 1030’s smooth side and that is the QPAD|XT-R but still I think the Func is better in terms of control.
Tracking:
I tried it with the Razer Copperhead, but it was really hard for me to judge if there were tracking issues, since it was so hard and therefore it was hard for me to do a perfect negative acceleration test. What I can say is that it works absolutely perfect together with my IME 3.0. There was absolutely no sign of skipping not even when going near the maximum sensitivity of the IME 3.0 (5/10), which means zero filtering of mouse movement done by the OS.
Base:
This is one of the major differences between the two 1030 pads, where the surface1030 has a soft rubber base, the Archetype has a hard plastic one with some really sticky feet on it.
Func F30.R (Large)
Surface:
The surface of the Func F30.R (R for rough) is just like the rough side of both the surface1030 and the 1030 Archetype. The surface feels a bit different from the surface1030 because of the material used, but basically it has the same grain. Since the surface is semi rough you will feel the surface through your mouse when you move it around.
Specs:
- Single-sided mousing surface
- Large: 14" x 11"
- Available in three sizes: Medium, Larger, Extra large.
- Available in two textures: F10s or F30r
- Less than 1/16" thick
- Comes with cord clip (Large & Extra Large Only)*
Size:
The size is perfect for medium sensitivity gamers that prefer a semi rough surface. It reminds me a bit of the S&S from SteelPad, only bigger, better, and better looking.
Tracking:
As with the other Func mats, tracking was superb, no skipping or jumping. I can’t really comment on the compatibility with other laser mice because of the black surface.
Base:
Since the F30.R is a single sided mouse mat, it doesn't have a separate base module like the two double sided 1030s. The bottom of the mat is made of soft rubber and it sticks really well to my wooden desk. As with the other Func pads, the F30.R didn’t move an inch while gaming.
Antifriction liquid
First I thought that the Antifriction liquid was a marketing joke, but after using the stuff for some time I have actually grown quite fond of it. It certainly reduces the friction between mouse feet and mat. I would say that it reduces the friction on a hard surface as much as 30% if applied to both surface and mouse feet. I applied it and let it cure for about an hour before I began my testing, afterward I tried to keep track of how long a treatment lasts. It is hard to say, but I guess that a treatment lasts 2-3 days, of course it depends on how much you use the gaming surface.
