Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Pro AX Review

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

  • The Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Pro AX is available for US$259.99.
  • Powerful VRM design
  • Good connectivity
  • Attractive aesthetics
  • Four M.2 slots
  • RGB LED implementation feels dated
  • No PCIe x1 slots
The Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Pro AX is a great-looking motherboard. The AORUS theme of black and gray is not as flashy as some designs, but there is excellent attention to detail. Additionally, the neutral color tones will make the AORUS Pro AX a great platform for a wide variety of builds. Premium features, like double-sided M.2 heatsinks and four M.2 slots along with a healthy complement of USB, allow the Pro AX to compete with much more expensive boards. Where the Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Pro AX falls short is the RGB LED implementation. The single RGB zone features great diffusion, but the brightness and effects feel dated.

Out of the box, performance was excellent for the Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Pro AX. Memory overclocking was decent as well since I reached 3900 MHz CL16 stable with my 10th Gen CPU and 3800 MHz with my 11th Gen sample. For CPU overclocking, I was able to achieve 5.2 GHz on all cores with my i9-10900K and 5.1 GHz on my i9-11900K sample. VRM thermals were excellent as well, never exceeding 70 °C during even my VRM torture testing. Given I test on an open bench with no airflow for the finned heatsink to take advantage of, this is a great result.

The Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Pro AX is a well-rounded board with high-end features and good aesthetics and performance, all at a very competitive price. If you are in the market for a fully featured Z590 motherboard and don't mind the minimal RGB, the Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Pro AX should be at the top of your list.
