In Win NA eSATA & USB Enclosure Review

Assembly

To remove the inner hard drive tray, simply remove the screws, and pick up the entire contraption by the cloth handle. It is actually quite intricate. It looks like In Win has once again, put a lot of thought into the interior and exterior of the NA.

The IC used to offer the eSATA and USB 2.0 connectivity is the PL-2571. This is the first time I have seen this chip in such an enclosure. It is made by Prolific. If you wish to read up on the features of this piece of silicon, here is the link to the PDF on the website of Prolific USA.

The three connectors are nothing out of the ordinary: USB 2.0, eSATA and power. They are part of the hard drive tray/cage instead of the white plastic bowl. To install a hard drive simply slide it in place, and secure it with the four special screws, which are included in the package. The hard drive is held in place by rubber rings, to kill any vibration dead in its tracks.

The latch, which hides the connectors can easily be removed. We connected all three items to their respective plugs to take the picture above. The cables are then routed out the little opening at the end of the plastic enclosure. A white LED lights up as soon as you turn on the NA. There is no specific hole to let the light shine through, instead it glows through the porcelain instead - a very nice touch.
