The Lamptron Touch is a proper display of elegant functionality. A smooth front aluminum bezel surrounds a sleek black touch screen, all the more inviting for fingers to peruse the outside. Granted the exterior is pretty but it's the implementation that draws away from the silky exterior. Understandably fan adapter cables are optional and most likely tucked away inside a case so it seems unfair to nag about such an unworthy complaint. However the direction Lamptron has taken with the Touch is simply being held back by long ugly colored fan adapter cables. With the price approaching the better part of a full hundred dollars sleeving the fan adapter cables could have easily been implemented and provided an excellent addition to the overarching goal to keep simple beautiful.
Touch screens on fan controllers are not anything new, heck it's 2011 and nearly everything has a touch screen interface. What does come through is the lack of finger prints and smudges. Amazingly there were little to none from basic use. Even sliding the fan percentage did not result in any smudging, in the event of a smear or unsightly finger print the inclusion of the cleaning cloth simplifies this matter. The only dark spot in the whole touch screen issue is finer sensitivity. The finer touches were by far the hardest to manipulate. Using the small incremental percent increase was simply too hard of a precise maneuver to warrant practice and so the ease of sliding the bar to whatever percent was close enough just worked. This small quarrel does warrant some reaction but can easily be overwhelmed by the long list of positives.
Having control over multiple individual fans with customization for each from voltage, to RPM, to percentage, to a specific temperature awareness to sound an alert makes for a very unique user experience. Aside from having control groups, this latest touch screen fan controller from Lamptron has everything you would want in an enthusiast fan controller and more. Exceptionally pleasing in any case setting the customization simply adds depth to the already intriguing Lamptron Touch.
