The LEPA NEOllusion is a solid CPU cooler. It managed to handle the overclocked Intel i7 6700k without much issue. More importantly, it managed to do so while being quiet. For users wanting an ultra-silent experience, an adapter that limits the RPM range to 400-1000 is included. However, it doesn't feel necessary with the sound level maxing out at just 43 dBA by default with the fan at max RPM. A rather nice point for first-time builders is the fact that the NEOllusion is very easy to install. It also doesn't hurt that build quality is very good; I found no real faults to speak of. Sure, the HDT base has some small gaps, but that is to be expected given the design. For those wanting improved cooling performance, LEPA has made sure to include an extra fan clip for a dual-fan option. Finally, the biggest draw of the NEOllusion is the unique RGB LED system built into the heatsink. Offering a bunch of colors and modes controlled by a wireless controller, this might just be the cooler for you if LEDs are your thing since it can look absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking for a cooler that does RGB LED lighting the right way to really stand out in terms of appearance, the LEPA NEOllusion is one of a kind.
It is not all roses and RGB rainbows. Memory clearance is tight to say the least; while the first DIMM slot was not blocked, the fan does touch the side of the memory heatsink. As such, depending on memory and motherboard, this could prove problematic. While it was okay on the test bench, it is worth keeping in mind. Looking at the NEOllusion's price to performance and overall cooling ability, the cooler is very much middle of the pack. It is obvious that the LED lighting system took precedence over cooling performance. A market for shiny and flashy coolers definitely exists, but users looking for better performance per dollar should look at the Thermalright True Spirit 140 Direct or Scythe Fuma. When it comes to pure cooling performance, the NEOllusion was not all that impressive.
In the end, the LEPA NEOllusion's downfall isn't that it does anything really wrong; it just doesn't quite do enough right. It's too average for its own good. Priority was placed on the RGB LED system which, while truly amazing and unique to this cooler, only offers users so much. Cooling performance needs to be slightly better because its price-to-performance ratio doesn't match the sticker price currently. It would be of better value at $49.99. The NEOllusion is likely a clear winner for those worried about looks first. If performance is most important for you, keep looking.
Overall, the LEPA NEOllusion is an average CPU cooler with big RGB LED lighting. If you want pretty lights and full control over the lighting, but don't need best in class performance, LEPA has you covered.
