This has definitely been one of the more challenging reviews to tackle since only so much can be said about system memory that isn't marketed towards PC gamers and computer enthusiasts alike. First and foremost, this memory is not designed or marketed to set any benchmark records, nor is there a secret "diamond" in the sand, a golden goose hidden among the many. There have been instances in the past where people got such memory in an OEM system and made out like a bandit in the overclocking realm. In budget DDR-2133 kits, Samsung used the highly renowned B-die, Micron E-die, and SK Hynix D-die. So getting amazingly lucky was possible. However, such overclocking using top-tier ICs found in budget kits isn't something average users are going to know about or even take advantage of, nor is it guaranteed.

The only real benefit of knowing which ICs are used for budget kits surfaces when adding more RAM at a later date, as you will exactly know which additions are compatible. I still do not recommend mixing brands, kits, or buying more at a later date, but it does make the process easier if the route you want to take. However, Lexar does not make this an easy endeavor by blanking out the SPD data and putting its own logo on these.

Pricing is fair compared to other brands in the same category, like Teamgroup, Micron, SK Hynix, and Mushkin, to name a few. I think the biggest overlooked aspect of this kit is the JEDEC SPD of 3200 MT/s at 1.2 V, which is a big deal. This kit is designed for maximum capacity across generations of CPUs. If the CPU does not support the 3200 MT/s JEDEC, the motherboard should be able to automatically choose the next-highest profile all the way down to 2133 MT/s.

To wrap this review up, as far as I am concerned, Lexar has produced and marketed a product that hits all the marks it is intended for. In an unconventional way, I would recommend the Lexar Desktop Memory to those who just need system memory, but aren't sure what would be compatible, or lack the technical know-how to find out. No settings have to be changed after installation, making it is truly plug and play. Consumers that are confident enough to traverse and navigate all the computer lingo may find better solutions for their needs. Lexar, on the other hand, does make it pretty easy to buy, install, and continue on without a worry about whether it will work or not.
