Packaging and accessories

Following the PSU's shape, Lian Li decided to repeat the motif on the packaging as well. The box is quite large and includes all the specifications one might want to know about the PSU without going to the manufacturer's website. That includes the power distribution information, cable lengths, the full feature list as well as certification information.

Graphs featuring the efficiency in both 115 V and 230 V networks are also present and so are the fan RPM graphs, showing a passive mode operation at up to 260 W of power output.

Inside the box we first are greeted by a short user's manual, a bag of neatly packaged cables and the power supply itself. The accessory kit includes the modular cables, an AC cable, manual, screws, a few zip ties and a PCIe slot bracket.

The cable list, as seen in the specifications, is quite extensive, and we will have a more detailed look at them in the cabling section below.

In this case the modular cables need some additional description. The individually sleeved cables look great and also have "built-in" cable combs that can be slid to the required position to maintain neat motherboard, CPU and GPU power cables. All of which feature AWG 16 gauge which is great. The smaller peripheral cables for SATA and 4 pin Molex connectors are AWG 18.

In terms of connectivity options, the number of cables is very appropriate for a unit of this capacity. Length-wise you might notice that the motherboard and CPU power cables are about 10-15 cm shorter that what you might find in other PSUs. This stems from the form factor optimizations of the EDGE power supply, so it is important to take that into account if you're considering this PSU series in a larger traditional chassis.

It is great to see that Lian Li displays the cabling specification clearly, including the cable length as well. With dual CPU power connectors (one 4+4 and one 8 pin), four separate PCIe 6+2 pin and two 12V-2x6 cables the EDGE 1300 W comes well-equipped to help max out its capacity. Yes, one of the 12V-2x6 cables connects to the power supply via the 2 x 8 pin connector, but the graphics card bound connector still follows the latest specification and dimensions of ATX 3.1.

The peripheral cabling is also well-thought-out. On the SATA power delivery you can choose from a 4 connector cable with 15 mm spacing, or a more traditional 4 connector cable with 15 cm spacing, or use one of the Y shaped cables that have not only 90 degree, but also straight angle connectors. For Molex peripherals there's a single 4 connector cable included with the PSU.

The PSU also comes with a couple of USB cables. Either of them can be used to connect the built-in USB hub to the motherboard (either via the internal motherboard header or by using the external USB type-A cable).

The cables have no inline capacitors for ripple/noise suppression.

Overall the connectivity for the EDGE 1300 W is very well executed.
