Lian Li tends to think outside of the box when it comes to new formats and case variants. The PC-D8000 is such a chassis. The most prominent aspect being the fact that it is incredibly large. Offering a vast amount of space for expansions, it allows for up to twenty fully sized hard drives to be installed. That, coupled with the ability to swallow a whole HPTX motherboard and numerous fans, makes for a unique aluminum enclosure.

Is it worth the €330 price-tag, though? Considering that it does not offer hot-swap PCBs on at least a few of the drives, comes with not a single fan, and only the basic accessories, I would go as far as to say that there are much better options out there if you do not need the space. Adding one of the top panels and three fans to the bill will have the chassis cost close to €400. At €400, a chassis like the Lian Li PC-V2120B suddenly becomes much more appealing. Still allowing for up to thirteen drives to be installed, already including four fans but also offering a fan controller and even better SSD support, it also offers sound dampening, better casters, a lockable front, and audio I/O. All at less than €400 and in a smaller form factor, and it still has a removable motherboard tray, the expansion-slot support system, and screw-less locks for optical bays.

The Lian Li PC-D8000 is really only for those who desperately want to stuff more than thirteen fully sized hard drives into a single case, and there is no alternative for those projects anyways, which forces one to grab this massive cube case. For everyone else: Take a hard look at all the other excellent HPTX-capable offerings Lian Li has as they tend to offer much better bang for your buck.
