Moon Key Artisan Keyboard Wrist Rests and Keycaps

Summary and Conclusion

PriceThere are a couple of things here that may be different from what is sold, especially when it comes to the Last Astronaut keycap which seems to be a more faceted version with a spiral background if going by the shop page. I personally think that version looks better too, but I would also be less than diligent if I did not point out that there are different Moon Key wrist rests and keycaps on the themes covered here. I think the Eagle Has Landed theme as a wrist rest is better than the Lunar Lander, which I would rather have as a keycap. The Curiosity Rover wrist rest is a great addition to the space theme set too, though the color is harder to match with keyboards. The Blue Lotus keycap is a nice option to have with the standard Lotus one, and I'd personally take the Dinosaur keycap over the Fire Dragon one. There's even a Stegosaurus fossil wrist rest for a match!

Such is the product portfolio of Moon Key that you have other similar options for the Koi theme, and this is before we get to the standalone items, such as a cool-looking dining table, an even more expensive table, and a tea tray set to go with the table, too. With Moon Key, it does seem to be a case of the larger items being the way to go. Indeed, the shop sells more wrist rests than key caps, which is unheard of in the custom keyboard artisan market. I can't vouch for all the products of course, and we have already seen that quality control and raw quality/detail can be improved in some cases. But for the money, the wrist rests and some of the keycaps seen here seem well worth the price of admission, especially noting how much time and resources making any of these takes.

Artisan products are by their inherent nature not for everyone. In fact, I wholly expect many to be turned off by some of the products covered here, if not all of them. Many others may find it economically unavailable to spend the money on products that are completely unnecessary, although the wrist rests and other non-keycap items made by Moon Key can challenge that train of thought. The keycaps at the very least are quickly becoming a way for users to further customize keyboards to their desire and, in a time where we use them all the more, why not personalize it? I see artisan keycaps on keyboards as a similar extension as adding personal touches to a work office or cubicle, and the wrist rests just happen to go further down that road. While the resin used on the wrist rests isn't the most comfortable, it in fact ends up the ergonomically better option over other materials by providing a rigid stop for your hands which should ideally hover above the keys anyway. It doesn't get any colder or warmer to the touch than a plastic wrist rest, and having a showcase under your hands can make for a fascinating conversation starter, too. No matter which side of the artisan argument you find yourself on, I think we can all appreciate these handmade items for what they are, and this article hopefully brings more eyes on such products, too.
