PCB Analysis
MSI has customized their PCB for cost and efficiency. They're using six phases for the GPU and two phases for memory.
The uP9505 voltage controller handles GPU voltage. It feeds its six PWM phase signals into UBIQ M3816N dual N-Channel MOSFETs.
The memory VRM is two-phase and powered by the same UBIQ M3816N MOSFETs we saw for the GPU voltage.
The GDDR5 memory chips are made by Micron and carry the model number D9VVR, which decodes to MT51J256M32HF-80:B. They are specified to run at 2000 MHz (8000 MHz GDDR5 effective).
The Radeon RX 580 uses the same Ellesmere GPU as the Radeon RX 480, each transistor is identical. The only difference is in their manufacturing process, which has been refined and now happens at Samsung and GlobalFoundries. The transistor count is 5.7 billion, and the die size is 232 mm².
