Assembly is a quite straightforward procedure if you stick to the provided instructions. If you prefer assembling the chair on your own, it will take you around 20-25 minutes, but having someone else around to help you will definitely make the whole process much easier. It took us about 15 minutes to fully assemble the chair (we knew how to go about it since we had already assembled a nobelchairs chair previously) with the second person just passing out the screws and monitoring the whole process rather than helping.
We made a note of this sticker, but did want to see what would happen if we toyed with the rocking mechanism! As the notice mentions, you absolutely have to make sure not to touch this mechanism when tilting the chair, cause doing so will definitely have you run into some serious problems with your fingers. Turns out this rocking mechanism is really fast and interacts rather rigorously with other components, so you had definitely better be extra careful with it.
The Chair
The chair's color is mainly black, which is the color most executives usually prefer. The red stitching looks super nice on the black material. The framing around the seating area with a black strip of smooth velour resembling suede is also a nice touch.
There is more than one emblem to let everyone know that this is a noblechairs product; there are an aluminum label with noblechairs' logo on the backrest, their crown logo on the headrest, and a golden-stitched combination of both their logo and crown in red font on the right side of the seating area. The only thing that caught our attention here in a bad way is that the aluminum label isn't properly aligned.
The entire contact area - the area you would sit in, including the backrest - is covered in premium PU imitation leather. This material is synthetic polymer made out of polyurethane (PU). The company supports that the procedures used offer characteristics similar to genuine leather. For history lovers, this material was first developed in 1937 in Leverkusen, Germany. PU was applied on a limited scale as aircraft coating during World War II. Noblechairs claims that this specific material can also be found inside of top-of-the-line premium cars. Its thickness reaches 1.5 mm, which makes it 25-60 percent thicker than the materials on other gaming chairs. In comparison to real leather, PU imitation leather is much easier to clean and cooler to the touch.
Under the PU synthetic cover, we encounter dimensionally stable cold foam that is covered in ergonomically shaped upholstery, which makes the basis of the chair solid. The open cell foam's high density of 55% allows the area you sit in retain its shape after prolonged use, and enables it to endure a body weight of up to 120 kg. The foam is also designed to be ergonomic and breathable, capable of climate regulation control, at least according to its manufacturer's statements. Our experience with the chair showed that it is ergonomic, but we cannot confirm whether it is capable of climate regulation since we only used the chair in a temperature-controlled environment.
The chair's dimensions are to a degree adjustable. Its height can range from 131-141 cm, and the backrest is 87 cm tall. The seating area has a width of 56 cm and is 56.5 cm deep. We found the seating area to be quite wide and comfortable for our body type; however, people with larger dimensions might need an even wider area to sit in. Folding your feet up and onto the chair while playing or writing is also usually no problem. In the ergonomics section, there are plenty of things to look into as well.
The height from the ground up is of course adjustable, ranging from 49.5 cm to 59.5 cm. Under the area you sit in rests a height-adjustable safety class 4 gas lift, which leads to the rocking mechanism at the chair's front edge that can be adjusted by up to eleven degrees. Sitting positions can be adjusted by a lever located between the backrest and seating area. Tilt positions can be dynamically adjusted with the control knob at the bottom of the seat. The chair's adjustability continues with its ability to swivel around 360 degrees.
The angle between the backrest and the area you sit in is statically adjustable, ranging from 90° to 135° degrees. To set the desired incline, simply use the lever with the grip, located to the right of the area you sit in. This way, the chair can also be "folded," which makes placing it into a car's trunk or stowing it away quite easy. When tired, you can lift the lever and fall way back, or have the chair in an up-front position instead.
As the picture above demonstrates, the 4D armrests are fully adjustable to the right, left, up, or down. The only negative we could come up with here as far as the crafting quality is concerned is that the armrest cover is made out of PU (polyurethane material). Given the swagger around the designing superiority of the Epic chair, this is once more a detail we can't let slide. The armrests could be covered with faux leather as well, which would have the whole chair look a lot more luxurious.
The steel and aluminum chassis can support users with a weight of up to 120 kg. The chair's base features a five-star shape and has a matte black powder-coated finish. Lastly, there are five quality casters with glossy black details attached to the base. These also easily slide around on any surface.
Compared to other chairs we've used so far, noblechairs' chair is harder overall. Both the seating area and backrest share the same feel. The combination does produce the desired result overall, though. You may spend hours sitting in your EPIC chair without feeling uncomfortable.
More than four different people tried this chair over a pretty long period of time (over two weeks), and both the basis of the area you sit in and the backrest welcomed us all differently. One of them wanted to fold her legs up while the rest either preferred to lean back or just relax by rocking themselves out! In any case, the two pillows included (neck and lumbar pillow) played a big part in making all of us feel comfortable. The neck pillow can only be fully utilized by people over a certain height since it is out of reach for anyone below 1.65 meters (which is 5.5 inches).
Since the backrest is quite hard, the two included pillows help with adjusting the chair's ergonomics to the user's needs. Optimal lumbar support should, however, offer both vertical- and depth-specific adjustments. This is especially important if the user has lower back issues, is of a certain weight, or if a chair is used by more than one person (not at the same time!). To be even more specific, the backrest should be able to slide up and down in order to allow the lumbar curve of the chair's backrest to fit into your lower back's curve. Currently, only the lumbar pillow is freely adjustable, there to support your lower back in the best possible way.
In terms of cold and hot environments, the synthetic cover does maintain its temperature without causing any discomfort. However, we should stress here that we didn't encounter temperatures of over 24 °C (75.2 °F) due to our lab's own climate control features.
