Value & Conclusion

  • Easy adjustable DPI setting
  • The look of the mouse
  • Rubber grip pad is a nice idea
  • Thin and lightweight cord
  • Just above average ergonomics, but only just
  • Performance
  • Tracking
  • Triple-Threat button performance
  • Features
  • Drivers
The OCZ Equalizer disappoints in almost every possible way, right from the tracking performance to the driver setup. This mouse is the perfect example of why companies should abandon immature laser sensors and go back to the old style optical sensors, even though the sensor is 2500 DPI no one will ever be able to take advantage of the high DPI rating because of the lousy tracking capabilities of the sensor. Considering the price of $40 this mouse isn't exactly cheap compared to the level performance it offers, compared to other offerings with a $40 price tag you can, e.g. get either a Razer Diamondback (1600 DPI) or an MX510 (800 DPI) both are performance gaming mice that can keep up with both low and high sensitivity gamers. 800-1600 DPI is more than enough for the majority of high sensitivity gamers.
Another disappointing performance feature of the OCZ Equalizer is the so called "Triple-Threat" button which should fire three shots in rapid succession. I found that this button doesn't really do this in most games, this makes the button completely useless in the majority of first-person-shooter games. The only pro that I can think of when it comes to the "Triple-Threat" button is that it functions as a double click button in Windows, but that is nothing out of the ordinary.
This mouse's performance is sub-par to that of many cheaper mice, the fact that it's labeled "Gaming mouse" could not be more false. In my opinion this mouse is unsuitable for gaming and I would seriously reconsider a cheaper and more ergonomic mouse for the ordinary desktop tasks.
