On Screen Menu

The screenshots below show you all 10 pages of the onscreen menu. As you can see, the T12 is a fully featured monitor, with all the usual settings. The menu clearly shows what resolution and refresh rate the unit is using at the moment:

T12 in Action

Once the display has been set up, using it is a real joy. Using a 720p resolution, as I have cloned the display of my 32 inch LG LCD TV, the T12 looks gorgeous. The colors are quite vivid and the touch interface accurate. I did find myself a bit hard pressed to hit the right function within the Media Center at times, as some buttons are quite small. Taking a look at a picture, it becomes apparent, that the T12 has no problems with colors, but with the black level. While the use of a mirror finish surface could improve in that area, it would also add glare to the screen. Another weakness is the slighly uneven backlight. To illustrate this point, I turned off all the lights and took the above picture in complete darkness. The camera was pointed directly at the T12 at a 90 degree angle. The bottom of the screen is slighly brighter than the rest. This brings me to the last point: viewing angle. While the T12 performs very well when looked at from left or right, it really lacks a good vertical viewing angle. You should place the unit so that you are looking at it from a 90 degree angle, any deviations and it will fade out - especially when a dark image is displayed. You should however remember, that the T12 is intended to be placed on your coffee table in your living room, automatically making it easy to look at the unit the right way.

After a bit of use, I turned off the display. As you can see, it does collect fingerprints. I expected it to be much worse, but I was able to remove the smudges quickly and completely with the included cleaning cloth.

1080p resolution

OrigenAE advertises a possible 1920x1080 resolution. This translates to the "full HD" or 1080p standard. The above images are taken with the T12 running at this resolution. Even though it runs 1280x800 natively - just like the screen built into the S21T, the extreme close-up shows, that it manages the high resolution with flying colors. Using the touch interface at this resolution does become tricky, as the afore mentioned buttons within the Media Center become even smaller. Trying to navigate the Start menu and trying to open up Windows Media Center, yielded in three Windows Mail clicks before I managed to get it right. To eliminate this, simply increase the font size in Windows.
