Raidmax Aeolus Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The Raidmax Aeolus can be found for $89.99. Definitely not the most expensive mid-tower chassis and priced very competitively.
  • Four included 120 mm fans
  • Tool-less installation for both hard drives and optical drives
  • Can fit the largest of video cards
  • Side window with available 120 mm fan mounting option
  • Removable HDD bay
  • Removable dust filter for power supply
  • Bottom mounted power supply
  • Exterior casing may be obscure for some
  • Limited space for large power supplies
  • Difficult use of provided cable management cut-away holes
Raidmax has upped their game with the Aeolus, many improvements over recent additions are well received. Moving the power supply down to the bottom of the case and including a removable dust filter is a very nice improvement. The four included fans are great, but giving additional options like the side panel fan is even better. This allows the user to customize the case to their liking. With all four fans blowing at 100% they move quite a bit of air while not compromising sound levels. I opted to add an additional 120 mm fan to the side panel and while helping draw air in to the video card area, there seemed to be quite a bit of vibrational noise. Even though the installed fan was a quiet case fan at only 800 RPM, perhaps an included rubber 120 mm spacer could have addressed this issue.

The glaring drawback has to be the trade off for using a large power supply and having to remove a HDD bay. Losing 50% of the internal HDD mounting due to a larger power supply is a hard pill to swallow. If someone choose to keep both hard drive bays and use a larger power supply immediately cable management would be beyond difficult. Additionally a modular power supply could advert some of the obstacles with leaving both hard drive bays, but still size limitations would occur.

Overall the Aeolus is a strong gaming chassis from Raidmax. With many notable features and only a few minor grumbles it's easy to say this case is well designed. The Aeolus is a great opportunity for those looking for a gaming chassis that won't break the bank.
