Microsoft Habu Review 1

Microsoft Habu Review

Performance

It's always hard to test the performance of a mouse unbiased. I have decided to test this mouse by using the most common configurations. To test the sensor's compatibility I pulled out all the mouse mats I have and tried the Habu on all them.

My benchmark for low and medium sensitivity was the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0.

Sensitivity test

Since the mouse has a 2000 DPI laser sensor I have tested it by using a high-sensitivity. It performs really good and is just as precise as the Copperhead. The only thing that is a bit annoying while playing with a high sensitivity is the weight, it's substantially heavier than the Copperhead making it a bit harder to be precise.

When the mouse was announced by Razer they said that this mouse was optimized for low sensitivity gamers. And that is sort of correct, the shape of the mouse is better for most low-sensitivity gamers but the tracking is still lousy if you use low-sensitivity. The mouse can't track fast movements resulting in some erratic cursor/crosshair behavior. The Habu has the exact same problems with fast movement as the Razer Copperhead which is a shame.

While gaming with it at high-sensitivity I was impressed with the precision. It was simply amazing and the shape was comfortable, making it easy to control the mouse movement. This mouse is nice if you are a high-sensitivity gamer but not worth the money if you use low-sensitivity.

Compatibility

I tried the Microsoft Habu on the following mouse mats: Everglide Titan, QPAD EC-R, QPAD CT (Black), Func 1030 Archetype, Func F30.R, Func F10.S, Ratzpad, NOIDpad Eclipse.

There isn't really anything I can point my finger at, the mouse performs the same on almost all of the mats. The only mat where the performance suffered was the QPAD CT (Black). It has the exact same problems on this mat as the Copperhead, it stalls even when you move the mouse very slowly.

Durability

The Habu seems to be one of the best-built mice Razer has ever made. The build quality is really nice and the finish is impeccable, even better than the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. Even the side button panel mechanism seems well designed and durable.
