Value & Conclusion

  • The Rosewill Meteor XR will set you back by around 80 US dollars excluding taxes.
  • Clean design
  • High-quality glass side panel
  • All-steel interior
  • Very good liquid-cooling capabilities
  • HDMI port as part of the front I/O
  • Well-placed fan-mounting holes in the top
  • Magnetic dust filter on top
  • Very good cable management
  • Included fans are not of retail quality.
  • No vents in the front diminish the cooling performance of fans there
  • HDMI cable needs to be routed through a hole in the rear of the chassis
  • Large HDD activity LED better suited as a power LED
  • Break-out covers for expansion slots
  • Interior tooling is also used by other brands
The Rosewill Meteor XR takes the same basic body we have seen for cases like the Silverstone RL05, the much more elaborate Aerocool P7-C1, or, more recently, the Antec P8 and adds no noteworthy modifications. You get the same all-metal interior, including the shroud, which is great, and the same offset cover with the bulging opening within that allows for a clean build and the possibility to place SSD trays.

That said, Rosewill does not really try to push the envelope in any of these areas to give users a functional reason to pick their case over any other by, say, raising the number of SSD brackets, adding a third fan, or going for two 140 mm units in the front instead. That leaves us with a quite functional but somewhat commonplace interior, which means the Meteor XR's exterior has to make sure it can draw the attention of potential customers.

As for looks, Rosewill has a good eye for it as far as the Meteor XR is concerned. The flat front could potentially use a faux brushed surface that is a bit less pronounced, but having the texture is definitely a nice touch. On top of that, the asymmetrical red trim is not simply a flat stripe, but actually one with some nice design elements to it. However, the all-around solid cover means that air circulation will suffer even if you fill the front with cooling units.

Another nice and fairly unique, but maybe not so useful feature is the HDMI port, as the chassis would make for a good candidate for VR applications, especially at this price point. However, that market is still quite the niche, with Facebook recently reducing the price of the Oculus VR to give the meager adoption rate a bit of a boost. Maybe a more appropriate connector would have been a USB-C Gen2 connector instead.

Overall, the Rosewill Meteor XR offers the high-quality glass panel and all the liquid cooling and interior functionality one has come to expect from cases of this price range these days, so you can't really go wrong if you love its looks, especially if you can also put its HDMI port to use.
