Value and Conclusion

  • The Rosewill RX82-U sells for $69.99 US Dollars at NewEgg.
  • Unique tray design
  • Hot-swap capability
  • Air cooling
  • Decent performance
  • Competitively priced
  • Additional trays can be purchased separately
  • Slightly larger than other dual-drive enclosures
  • No eSATA connection
  • Fan and drive noise were noticeable
The Rosewill RX82-U HDD Enclosure is solidly built and works very well for a USB enclosure. Looking around the Internet I could not find very many enclosures like this one with dual removable bays. The few enclosures that I did find were more expensive than this unit. I like how the tray design works, and I appreciate that more trays can be purchased if additional drives are needed.

The RX82-U is slightly larger than some other dual drive enclosures, but the size is due to the integrated power supply and the removable trays. The fan in the back of the enclosure was not loud, but its noise and that of the spinning drives were noticeable in a quiet room. However, the real negative point is the lack of eSATA, especially when the chipset used supports it.

Overall I felt the Rosewill RX82-U was a quality enclosure for those needing two external USB disk drives. Hopefully Rosewill will add eSATA support in the near future.
