Value and Conclusion

  • The Saitek GH50 is available for around 60€ in Europe and 80-90 USD in America. This is quite normal for a powered headset with more than just simple stereo output.
  • Great SRS sound levels at high and low frequencies
  • Very light and comfortable
  • Very good build quality
  • Microphone long enough for everyone
  • Long cable
  • Can be used without a battery as normal stereo headset
  • Very high volume
  • Noticeable hiss as soon as SRS is turned on
  • Cannot be folded/No carrying bag included
  • SRS unit placed after 1 meter of cable from the headset
  • Connectors not color coded
  • SRS unit seems a bit flimsy
  • Required battery not included
The Saitek GH50 Surround Sound Headset is incredibly light and well built. While it may sound ordinary without the use of the SRS unit, as soon as it is turned on, you may never want to use a normal headset for gaming again. If you are not into the real 5.1 headsets, the GH50 is perfect for you.
The use of SRS instead of real discrete drivers make this very comfortable to wear and makes the smaller size possible. When watching movies, the GH50 completes the viewing experience by making action movies much more engulfing and scary movies much more horrid. Saitek has built a great headset with one, somewhat big shortcoming - a noticeable hiss as soon as the SRS unit is turned on. If Saitek can fix that in future revisions, this headset will be an Editor's Choice. Until then the SRS performance outweighs the hiss, making this a definite recommendation.
