Efficiency

Using the results we gathered so far, we plotted a chart showing the PSU's efficiency at low loads and loads ranging from 10 to 110 percent of the maximum-rated capacity.




Not the most efficient design, especially with 2% load. However, you cannot call it bad either. It is just that the competition is fierce.

10%–110% Load Testing

These tests reveal the PSU's load regulation and efficiency levels under high ambient temperatures. They also show how the fan speed profile behaves under tough operating conditions.

I noticed that the PF readings are not that high, especially at high loads. The PFC converter needs a little tuning to better match the voltage and current waveforms.

Light Load Testing

In the following tests, we measure the PSU's efficiency at loads significantly lower than 10 percent of the maximum capacity (the lowest load the 80 PLUS standard measures). This is important for representing when a PC is idle with its power-saving features turned on.

At light loads, efficiency levels are satisfactory, and the fan does not spin, which means noise output is minimal.

Ultra-light Load Testing

The applied load in this test is only 10 W for PSUs with 500 W and less capacity. We dial in 2% of the maximum-rated capacity for all other PSUs. We only run this test with 115 V input.
