Installation

Installing the SilentiumPC Fera 5 or Fera 5 Dual Fan is a very simple process on AMD. First, remove the brackets holding the backplate on the motherboard. Next, secure the AMD backplate to the motherboard using the threaded standoffs, after which you can position the mounting bracket on the standoffs and secure it with four screws. It is a very simple design and caused no frustrations up to this point.

With the mounting bracket in place, you can now apply the thermal paste and secure the heatsink to the mounting hardware. Now, attach the fans.

With the heatsink and fans secure, you can plug the fans in. To make things easier, the fans have the ability to be daisy-chained, so for the Fera 5 Dual Fan, plug one fan into the header on the other to then connect it to the CPU fan header on the motherboard.

Overall, the install process on AMD is refreshingly easy as I wasn't trying to hold on to multiple parts while securing the backplate and mounting brackets. In general, the mounting hardware works similarly on Intel, making the Fera 5 series easy to install without causing a headache. My only complaint is that the standoffs could be better. If you get them too tight, you will need pliers to loosen them later, and since the plastic is rather soft, a few remounts will likely chewed them up. Still, considering how simple the process is on AMD compared to coolers from other brands, I have to scratch my head and wonder why the big players can't quite figure it out—SilentiumPC certainly did.
