RAID Operations
In this scenario, we perform RAID rebuild and sync operations during which we measure the time the NAS needs to complete these tasks, along with the average power consumption for the entirety of these rebuild and sync periods. In NAS servers with four bays or more, we rebuild and sync RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 6 arrays. In smaller two-bay NAS servers, we are confined to a RAID 1 array. The Bitmap option is disabled in NAS servers that support it to produce comparable results, since it speeds up RAID rebuild times.
Synology DS215+ |
---|
Operation | Time | AVG Power Consumption |
---|
RAID 1 Sync | 3:22:13 | 22.22 W |
---|
RAID 1 Sync Fast | 0:06:33 | 20.67 W |
---|
RAID 1 Rebuild | 1:27:58 | 22.23 W |

As we expected, the difference between RAID 1 without disk checking for bad sectors and the normal procedure is huge. You should avoid the standard RAID-creation procedure that checks for bad sectors if you know your HDDs are free of bad sectors.
