Power Consumption

Let us now check on just how much power the DS141slim needs in sleep, idle, and during heavy throughput.

We use a GW Instek GPM-8212 power analyzer for all our power consumption measurements.

Sleep, Idle and Load

This small NAS consumed very little energy in all states. This is the sort of NAS you can leave on around the clock without having to worry about your electricity bill.

Power Consumption in Standby Mode

Vampire power or phantom load is the amount of power a device consumes when it is switched off but still plugged into the power grid. According to the ErP Lot 6 2013 directive, it should be below 0.5 W.

With such low consumption in standby, the DS414slim passes the ErP Lot 6 2013 requirements with flying colors.

Power Consumption Comparison Graphs

Only two NAS units we have tested so far require less energy than the DS414slim, however small the difference. Its CPU may be weak, but is also incredibly efficient!
